Raccoon Junior High’s school Trip♪ ３

七福神の中で唯一の女神・弁財天を祭っている六波羅蜜寺を後にした…レオンとアークの幼馴染Raccoon中学御一行。

After leaving Rokuharamitsu-Temple, which enshrines Benzaitenー the only goddess among the Seven Lucky Godsー Leon, Ark, and their Raccoon Junior High classmates, who have been friends since childhood, continued their Kyoto school trip.

次の目的地のために、またバス停「五条坂」からバスに揺られること約５分、「三十三間堂前」で降りることとなりました。

To reach their next destination, they once again boarded a bus at the Gojozaka stop.

After about a five-minute ride, they got off at Sanjusangendo-mae.

そして…、ジャーン！

And…ta-da！

本堂の大きさが南北に約120m、東西に約20mの三十三間堂にやってきました♪

They finally arrived at Sanjusangendo, whose main hall measures about 120ｍeters from north to south and about 20meters from east to west. ♪

しか～し、三十三間堂の内部は…、撮影禁止！

But…the inside of Sanjusangendo is strictly no photography！

＆「え～！そ～なの～💦？」

” Whaaat?! Seriously?!”

圧巻の1001体の千手観音像の画像をお見せ出来なくて残念です💧

It’s a shame we can’t show you photos of the breathtaking 1.001statues of Senju Kannon. 💧

…って、修学旅行で１度はみんな…訪れたことがあるだろうから知っているのでしょうけど…💦

「よく見ると、１体、１体表情が違うな！」

” Now that I look closely, each one has a different expression！”

「千手観音の前にいる、風神・雷神像やいろいろな仏様の像も圧巻だね！

まるでアイドルグループの頂点…センターみたいな出で立ち♪」

” The statues of Wind god, Thunder God, and the many other Buddhist deities standing in front of the Senju Kannon are incredible too！

They look like the top of an idol group…like the one standing in the center♪”

「確かに～！

…♪はいはい、あの娘(こ)は特別です！

我々は、ハナからおまけです‼

仏(お星)様の引き立て役Bです♪

…って、千手観音たちが唄ってそう！」

…♪ Yes, yes that girl is special！

We’re just extras from the very start!!

We’re Group B, here just to support the star (the Buddha) ♪

…That’s what the Senju Kannon statues sound like they’d be singing！”

” Ark…you even nailed the parody perfectly？💧”

お堂の途中、少し高台になっている場所に登って、上から千手観音群(💧)を眺めたり、願い事を大きなろうそくに書いて奉納したりしました♪

Partway through the hall, we climbed up to a slightly elevated spot and looked out over the rows of Senju Kannon statues from above.

They also wrote our wishes on a large candle and offered it as a prayer.

そして、↑これが三十三間堂の御朱印。

And ↑here it isー the goshuin from Sajusangendo.

じーん感動♪

So, moving…I’m really touched♪

外観は撮影OK。ちょうど中心辺り。

ここも、観光客でいっぱい。

This place was also packed with tourists.

お庭の手入れに来ていた作業員さんも写真に収めてしまいました💦

I even ended up capturing one of the gardeners who was working in the grounds in the photo. 💦

黄昏の三十三間堂。

夕方４時半で受付終了。５時で閉館。

Admission closes at ４:30 p.m., and the temple closes at ５:00 p.m.

建物を１周できる遊歩道があって、その周りのお庭も池も素敵でした

There’s a walking path that goes all the way around the building, and the surrounding garden and pond were beautiful.

「そういえば、1001体の千手観音が飾ってある天井の柱に、弓道の全国大会優勝の盾がいっぱい飾ってあったな？」

” Come to think of it, there were a lot of plaques for national Kyudo tournament champions displayed on the pillars near the ceiling where the 1,001 Senju Kannon statues are enshrined, right？”

「そうそう。三十三間堂って、昔からの弓道場…というか弓道を競った場所でもあるんだって！

しかも、この本堂の長さを利用して、120m先の的を狙う大会も昔にはあったらしいぞ！」

” Yeah, yeah. Sanjusangendo has long been used as a place for Kyudoー or rather, a place where archery competitions were held！

Apparently, there was even a contest in the past where archers aimed at targets 120meters away, making use of the full length of the main hall!!”

「あ～、それだったらオレもイケるぞ！

…スナイパーライフルを使って良いなら‼」

” Ohー if that’s the case, I could totally do it！

…As long as I’m allowed to use a sniper rifle!!”

「弓の道と書いて…弓道！スナイパーライフルを使うのは邪道～‼」

“It’s written ‘the way of the bow’ー kyudou！

Using a sniper rifle would be totally against the rules!!”

そして、ホテルのチェックインをするため、夕暮れの三十三間堂をあとに。

After that, they left Sanjusangendo in the evening twilight to check in at their hotel.

一旦、バスで京都駅へ。

First, they took a bus back to Kyoto Station.

小腹が空いたので、駅ビルの「ポルタ」にあった串揚げのお店「串カツだるま」で間食♪

Feeling a bit hungry, they stopped for a quick bite at the kushikatu restaurant Kushikatu Daruma in Kyoto Porta inside the station building.

ここでしか食べられない「ポルタセット」￥2,695(串揚げ14本)１人前を２人で仲良く分けて食べました。

They ordered the “Porta Set” (14skewers), a special set available only there for 2,695 yen, and the two of them shared one serving.

「このお店、前から来たかったんだ♪

ゲーム〈龍が〇く〉の大阪・蒼天掘の街にあって、ゲームでしか訪れたことなかったから、実際に来れて良かった～♡」

” I’ve been wanting to come to this place for a long time♪

It appears in the Osaka district of Sotenbori in the game Like a Dragon, and since I’d only ever visited it in the game before, I’m really glad I finally got to come here for real！♡”

「何これ、うんまぁ～♡ このソース最高！」

“What is thisー so good！♡ This sauce is amazing！”

「２度漬け禁止です‼

…というか、２度漬けできないように各テーブルのソース入れに入ってるから、ソースかけ放題なのがまた良いね♪」

” No double-dipping allowed!!

…Well, actually, the sauce is kept in a container at each table, so you can just pour as much as you want over itー that’s pretty nice♪”

「串カツも美味しいし、特にお通しで出てきた〈どて焼き〉が気に入った！」

“The kushikatsu is great, but I especially liked the doteyaki they served as the appetizer！”

「店頭でパックされたものが売ってるから、買って帰ろうっと♪」

“They’re selling it in take-home packs at the counter, so I’m going to buy some to take back♪”

お互いお土産として〈どて焼き〉も購入。

They each bought some dotekaki as a souvenir.

「想像以上に美味かった～♪ ゲーム上だけではなくて、実際に来て食べてみないと！…だね」

“That was even better than I imagined♪

It’s not enough to experience it only in the gameー you’ve got to actually come here and try it！…Right？ ”

レオンもアークも大満足して、お店を後にしました。

Both Leon and Ark were completely satisfied as they left the restaurant.

そこから、地下鉄で「十条駅」に戻り、駅から徒歩約2分…宿泊先のアリストンホテルに到着。

From there, they took the subway back to Jujo Station and, about a two-minutes’ walk from the station, arrived at their hotel, Ariston Hotel Kyoto Jujo.

チェックインした後は、預かってもらっていた荷物を部屋に運び、すぐにお出掛け💧

After checking in, they carried the luggage the hotel had been holding for them up to their roomー and then headed right back out. 💧

そう、ホテルから徒歩で向かった先は…伏見稲荷大社

Yes, the place they walked to from the hotel was…Fushimi Inari Taisha

夜の散歩がてら、ダラダラ歩いて20分くらいの道のりでした。

It was about a 20-minute walk, taking their time and strolling along as part of a pleasant evening walk.

It’s beautiful, isn’t it？♪

伏見稲荷大社といえば…この朱塗りの鳥居のトンネル！

Speaking of Fushimi Inari Taisha, this tunnel of vermilion torii gates is what comes to mind！

24時間、いつでも通り抜けられます！

You can walk through it anytimeー it’s open 24 hours a day！

日が落ちてからは、ちょっと不気味で怖い雰囲気も醸し出していますが…、

After the sun goes down, it also gives off a slightly eerie and spooky atmosphere, but…

夜でも意外と人が多く、ライトも綺麗で全然怖くありません。

Even at night, there are surprisingly quite a lot of people around, and the lighting is beautiful, so it’s not scary at all.

(さすがに真夜中には人がいないのだろうけど…💧)

(Though I suppose there probably aren’t many people here in the middle of the night…💧)

むしろ、幻想的な夜に来れて良かったです♪

If anything, I’m glad we got to come at nightー it feels almost magical♪

今日はいろいろ回って疲れたので、近場だけで帰ってきてしまったけど、

Since they were tried after visiting so many places today, they ended up just looking around nearby and heading back, but…

山の上の方まである鳥居コースを全部回ると、２時間も掛かるのだそう💧

Apparently, if you walk the entire torii gate route all the way up the mountain, it takes about two hours. 💧

ちょっとしたハイキングコースですね。

It’s practically a small hiking course.

さすがに真っ暗になってから、そのコースに行く観光客はいないようでした。

As you’d expect, there didn’t seem to be any tourists heading up there after it had gotten completely dark.

伏見稲荷大社のキツネ様にあやかって、キツネのお面を着けて仲良く記念撮影

Taking inspiration from the fox spirits of Fushimi Inari Taisha, they put on fox masks and took a friendly commemorative photo together.

鳥居トンネルの途中にあった松の大木の根っこ…「根上がりの松」(膝松さん)。

Along the torii tunnel, they came across the exposed roots of a large pine tree－ called Neagari no Matsu (also known as ‘Hizamatsu-san‘).

お〇松さんの兄弟にいそうな名前💦

The name sounds like it could belong to one of the brothers from Osomatsu-san. 💦

撫でると御利益があるそうで、根っこの間をくぐると、もっと良いらしく、レオンもアークも大きな身体を丸めてくぐってきました💦

It’s said that stroking the tree brings good fortune, and that crawling through the gaps between the roots brings even greater blessings.

So, Leon and Ark curled up their big bodies and squeezed through as well. 💦

商売繁盛、芸能上達、株や投資など…金銭面に効くそうです♪

Apparently, it’s believed to bring luck in financesー such as prosperous business, improvement in the arts, and even success in stocks and investments♪

いろんな人に撫でられて、太い枝がつるつる状態になってました

So many people had touched it that the thick branches had become completely smooth and polished.

そして、鳥居トンネルでUターンしてきた場所には、「おもかる石」というものがありました。

Then, at the point where they turned back along the torii tunnel, they came across something called the Omokaru Stone.

灯籠の前でお願いをし、灯籠の上に置いてある丸い石を持ち上げます。

After making a wish in front of the lantern, you lift the round stone placed on top of it.

その石の重さが自分が予想していたよりも軽いと願いが叶いやすいといわれています。

If the stone feels lighter than you expected, it’s said that your wish is more likely to come true.

もちろん、2人も挑戦。

Of course, the two of them decided to give it try as well.

灯籠前でガッツリお願い事をした後…、さぁ、どうかな？

After making their wishes very seriously in front of the lantern…well, how will it turn out？

「わぁ、思ったより軽かった～♪

じゃあ、オレの願いは叶うんだ～、やった～」

“Wow, that was lighter than I expected♪

So that means my wish will come trueー Yes”

「…思ったより、重く感じた～💧

簡単に持ち上げられはしたけど…。」

“It felt heavier than I expected…💧

I could still lift it easily, though…”

「…そっか。アークの願いって壮大そうだもんな。」

“…I see. Your wish must be something pretty grand, Ark.”

「…そんなことはないんだけど…ちょっとショック💧」

“…It’s not really like that, but it’s still a bit of a shock💧”

…で、2人は何をお願いしたのかな～？

…So, what did the two of them wish for？”

＆「だから、それは内緒～♪」

“Well, that’s a secret♪”

普通の神社の３倍くらいの大きさがあります。

It’s about three times the size of the fox statues you usually see at ordinary shrines.

目つきが鋭いそのお顔は、何か諫められているような…💧

With those sharp, piercing eyes, it almost feels like it’s scolding you somehow…💧

さっきから欲深いことばかり、お願いしてんじゃねぇよ～！

この強欲どもが～‼」

“Heyー you two over there!!

Stop making nothing but greedy wishes already！

You bunch of greedy fools!!”

＆「わぁ～、すみませ～ん💦」

“Waaahー sorry!!💦”

お稲荷様は、全てお見通し…。

The Inari deity sees right through everything…

最後に、入り口から見た伏見稲荷大社。

Lastly, a view of Fushimi Inari Taisha seen from the entrance.

左に見えるのは十六夜(いざよい)の月。

The moon you can see on the left is the sixteenth-night moon (Izayoi).

前の日が満月だったんですよね～。

The night before had actually been the full moon.

８時近くになっても、まだ続々と参拝者がやってきていました。

Even close to ８p.m., worshippers were still arriving one after another.

24時間訪れることが出来る神社だけど、さすがにお寺自体も周りのお店も閉まっていて、御朱印ももらえず、おみくじを引くことも出来ませんでした。

Although it’s a shrine you can visit 24 hours a day, the shrine offices and the surrounding shops were already closed, so they couldn’t get a goshuin or draw an omikuji.

でも、↑このライトアップは夜しか見れないので、これはこれで大満足♪

But this beautiful illumination can only be seen at night, so they were more than satisfied with that alone♪

その後、２人共お腹が空いてきたので、お店探し。

After that, both of them started to get hungry, so they began looking for a place to eat.

なかなか伏見稲荷大社の近くでは見つけられず、少しホテルに戻った先の大通りにあったお店・チャイニーズ「きんちゃん」を発見！

They couldn’t find anything nearby Fushimi Inari Taisha, but a little closer to their hotel, along a main street, they discovered a Chinese restaurant called Chinese Kin-chan.

もっと、京都らしいものが食べたかったけど、店前のメニューに惹かれ入店。

They had hoped to eat something more ‘Kyoto-like,’ but the menu displayed in front of the restaurant caught their attention, so they decided to go in.

レオンが頼んだのは「エビチリセット」！

Leon ordered the ’Shrimp in Chili sauce Set’！

「エビがぷりぷりで、あとから結構辛さがきて美味しかったな～♪

このえびせんが、またチリソースに合う！

スープも中華スープではなくてお味噌汁なのもまた良い♪」

“The shrimp was so plump, and the spiciness kicked in afterwardsー really delicious♪

These shrimp crackers go perfectly with the chili sauce！

And the soupー it’s not Chinese-style soup, but miso soup instead, which is great too♪”

そして、アークが頼んだものは「酒粕ラーメンセット」！

And what Ark ordered was the ‘Sake Lees Ramen Set’！

この「酒粕ラーメン」は、チャイニーズ「きんちゃん」イチオシのメニュー♪

This Sake Lees Ramen is Chinese Kin-chan’s top-recommended dish♪

「酒粕を使ったラーメン！珍しいから頼んでみちゃった♪

濃厚なスープはほんのり酒粕が香って、見た目よりまろやか。

味噌ラーメンととんこつスープを美味しいとこだけ合わせたような感じ？

細切りお揚げが、またこのスープに合うんだな～♪

アルコール分は熱で飛ばしてるんで、中学生(💧)のオレでも大丈夫！

…オレの秘密のレシピ帳に、新たに加えたくなった１品だ！

セットの鶏のから揚げもサクサクで美味しかった♫」

“Ramen made with sake lees！

It’s so unusual that I just had to try it♪

The rich broth has a subtle sake lees aroma and is creamier than it looks.

It’s like the best parts of miso ramen and tonkotsu broth combined.

The thinly sliced fried tofu goes perfectly with this soup♪

The alcohol is cooked out, so even a middle schooler💧like me can safely enjoy it！

…This is definitely a dish I want to add to my secret recipe notebook！

The set’s fried chicken was crispy and delicious too♪”

選んだお店がまた大当たりだった２人♪

The two of them had hit the jackpot with their choice of restaurant ♪

店を出た後、遠くに見えるライトアップされた京都タワーを眺めながら、ホテルまでの道をゆっくり帰りました。

After leaving, they slowly made their way back to the hotel, enjoying the view of the illuminated Kyoto Tower glowing in the distance.

「点呼～！」

“Roll call！”

＆「あっ！バリー先生、ちーっす‼

レオン・S・ケネディ、アーク・トンプソン…居まぁ～す💦」

“Ah！ Mr. Barry, hey there!!

Leon S. Kennedy, Ark Thompson…present!! 💦”

一応、修学旅行なんで生存確認(💧)しないとね💦

Since it’s a school trip, we’ve got to check that everyone’s still alive💦

「レオン、アーク！

いくら終日自由行動だとはいえ、夜にホテルを抜け出して花見小路に繰り出すんじゃあね～ぞ⁉」

“Leon, Ark！

Even if it’s a full day of free activities, you’re not sneaking out at night to go to Hanamikoji, got it?!”

＆「そんなことやりませ～ん！」

“We wouldn’t do something like that！”

この日、歩いた歩数…なんと、27,600歩！

The number of steps they walked that day…a whopping 27,600！

途中のアップダウンを考えると、相当な運動量。

Considering all the ups and downs along the way, that’s quite a workout.

ホテルに着いて、点呼して、各部屋に行き、シャワーを浴びて、すぐに2人はベッドにばたんきゅ～だったことはいうまでもありませんね💧

Once they got back to the hotel, checked in with roll call, went to their rooms, and took showers, it goes without saying that the two of them crashed into bed immediately💧
