Raccoon Junior High’s school Trip♪ ４
修学旅行２日目の朝。
The morning of the second day of the school trip.
疲れた割には朝６時に起床。
Despite being tired, they woke up at ６ a.m.
…まぁ、前の日に夜10時に眠ってしまったので、目が覚めてしまっただけなんですけどね💧
…Well, they did fall asleep at 10 p.m. the night before, so they simply woke up early. 💧
７時から、アリストンホテルで朝食。
Breakfast at the Ariston Hotel started at ７ a.m.
それまで、のんびり顔を洗ったり、着替えたり…部屋でゆっくり過ごしたレオンとアーク。
Until then, Leon and Ark took their time－ washing their faces, getting dressed, and relaxing in the room.
時間になり、１階のロビー脇にある食堂に行くと…、
When it was time, they headed to the dining hall beside the first-floor lobby, and…
朝食は、バイキング形式♪
Breakfast was buffet-style♪
どれでも、好きなおかずが取れて、飲み物も多数！
They could take any dishes they liked, and there were plenty of drinks to choose from！
和食の定番…卵焼きや納豆などのオーソドックスなものから、焼きベーコンや小分け蕎麦、京野菜を使った漬物やサバ寿司…まさかのカレーまで！
From classic Japanese breakfast staples like tamagoyaki and natto to grilled bacon, small bowls of soba, pickles made with Kyoto vegetables, and saba sushi (mackerel sushi) …there was even curry！
中には自家製の豆腐までありました
There was even homemade tofu as well
グリーンサラダ、フルーツ類、ヨーグルト…。
Green salad, fruits, yogurt…
なんとデザートにわらび餅もあって、目移りするぐらいメニューが豊富♪
There was even warabi mochi for dessertー the menu was so rich that it was hard to decide what to pick♪
「オレは、パンとスクランブルエッグ、ウィンナー、サラダ…と洋食の朝の定番メニューを選んだぞ。
飲み物も100％オレンジジュースから、食後のコーヒーまで楽しめて大満足♪
朝なのに、お腹いっぱい食べちゃった！」
” I went with the classic Western style breakfastー bread, scrambled eggs, sausages, and salad.
There were plenty of drinks too, from 100％ orange juice to coffee after the meal, so I was totally satisfied♪
Enen though it was morning, I ended up eating until I was completely full！”
「オレは最初から、サバ寿司が目に入って、どうしようもなかった💦
あまりにも美味くて、何ロールもおかわりしちゃったぞ♪
あと、小分け蕎麦も美味かったし、自家製豆腐も最高♫
最後…わらび餅まで食べちゃった！
この修学旅行で、オレの趣味の…秘密のレシピ帳に新たな分野が追加されていく‼」
” The moment I saw the mackerel sushi, I couldn’t resist. 💦
It was so good that I went back for several more rolls♪
The small bowls of soba were great too, and homemade tofu was amazing♫
I even finished with some warabi mochi for dessert！
Thanks to this school trip, a whole new category is being added to my hobby…my secret recipe notebook!!”
好きなものを好きな分だけ食べて、飲んで…アリストンホテルの朝食バイキングをゆっくり堪能した２人。
Eating and drinking whatever they liked, as much as they wanted…the two of them leisurely enjoyed the Ariston Hotel’s breakfast buffet.
「よぅ！ レオンにアーク。朝食は済ませたか～？」
” Hey！ Leon, Ark. Finished breakfast yet？”
担任のバリー・バートン先生が、食後のコーヒーを飲みながら話しかけてきました。
Their homeroom teacher, Barry Burton, called out to them while sipping his after-meal coffee.
＆
「あ！ バリー先生、ち～っす‼ 今、食べ終わったところで～す💦」
” Oh！ Morning, Mr. Barry!! We just finished eating💦”
「今日も終日自由行動だが…他校の生徒と揉めたり、問題行動を起こすんじゃあねぇ～ぞ！」
” You’ve got free time all day again today…but don’t go picking fights with students from other schools or causing any trouble！”
＆「は～い！ 問題は起こしませ～ん💦‼」
” Okaaay！ We won’t cause any trouble！💦”
「よかろう！ ただし、夜９時にはホテルで点呼を取るから、それまでにはホテルに戻って来いよ？」
“Good！
But I’ll be taking roll call at the hotel at ９ p.m., so make sure you’re back by then, alright？”
＆「は～い！ 時間は守りま～す💦‼」
“Okaaay！ We’ll be back on time！💦”
早速、部屋に戻り、お出掛けの準備♪
They quickly headed back to their room to get ready to go out♪
今日は、嵐山方面に出発です！
Today, they’re heading to the Arashiyama area！
ホテルをあとにし、地下鉄に乗り…一路、京都駅へ。
Leaving the hotel behind, they took the subway…heading straight for Kyoto Station.
京都駅からJR嵯峨野線で16分。
From Kyoto Station, it’s a 16-minute ride on the JR Sagano Line.
観光客と朝の通勤・通学客で超満員の電車に揺られ、到着したのは…嵯峨嵐山駅！
After riding a packed train full of tourists and morning commuters, they arrived at Saga-Arashiyama Station.
そこから、徒歩で約15分。
From there, it was about a 15-minite walk.
竹林の小径に到着♪
They arrived at the Bamboo Grove Path♪
ここは、前から来たかった場所。
This was a place they’d wanted to visit for a long time.
竹が生い茂る緑の小径を、深呼吸してマイナスイオンをいっぱい取り入れながら、
Taking deep breaths along the lush bamboo-lined path, they soaked in the refreshing air all around them,
朝もやの中をのんびり散歩する…。

…💧
…だけど、思っていたのとちゃいました
…but it wasn’t quite what they had imagined.
どこもかしこも、外国人観光客でいっぱい💦
Everywhere they looked was packed with foreign tourists. 💦
８割…いや９割以上が外国からのお客様💧
Eight out of ten…no, more like over ninety percent were visitors from overseas.
＆「いや、(こんな格好してるけど)オレらも～💦！」
“Well… (even though we’re dressed like this) we’re foreigners too！💦”
欧米では、フランス語圏の人たちが…アジア圏は中国人が圧倒的に多かったです。
Among the Western visitors, there seemed to be many French speakers…while among the Asian tourists, Chinese visitors were overwhelmingly the most numerous.
もっと細い道では、記念撮影渋滞を起こすほど…。
In the narrower paths, it was so crowded that people were even causing traffic jams just for taking photos…
ゆっくりマイナスイオン浴～♪ なんてできませんでした💧
So, there was no chance of relaxing and soaking in the ‘negative ions’ at all. 💧
皆さん、考えが同じで…朝早くから行動を起こしてるんですね～💦
It seems everyone had the same idea…starting their day early in the morning. 💦
ちょっと忙(せわ)しなかったけど…それでも来れて良かったです♪
It was bit hectic, but we’re still glad we came♪

もっと寒い時期に来ていれば紅葉も進んで、赤と緑の美しい小径を楽しめたのでしょうね。
If we had come during a colder season, the autumn leaves would have been further along, and we could’ve enjoyed a beautiful path of red and green.
…そしたら、もっと観光客が多くなっちゃうかもしれないですが💧
…Though that probably would’ve meant even more tourists. 💧
それから、一旦、嵯峨嵐山駅方面まで戻り、嵐山のメインストリートを散歩。
After that, they headed back toward Saga-Arashiyama Station and took a stroll along Arashiyama’s main street.
ん？ ↑この看板！
Huh？ That sign up ↑there！
「水曜どうでしょう」で見た…四国八十八カ所のお寺の看板にちょっと似てない💦？
Doesn’t it kind of look loke the temple signs from the Shikoku 88-temple pilgrimage we saw on How Do You Like Wednesday⁇ 💦
知っている人しか、知らない話題だし…、レオンたちの修学旅行には全然関係ないけど、気になったので撮影してしまいました💧
It’s the kind of reference only people who know it will recognize…and it has absolutely nothing to do with Leon and the other’s school trip, but it caught my attention, so I ended up taking a photo anyway. 💧
…分かる人には伝わって欲しい！
…I just hope the people who get it will get it！

そして、メインストリートを抜けると…、
And once they passed through the main street…
見えてきました！
There it was, coming into view！
嵐山といえば…渡月橋‼
When you think of Arashiyama…it’s the Togetsu Bridge‼
嵐山のシンボルですね♪
It’s the symbol of Arashiyama♪
ここは、外国からの観光客も多かったですが、レオンたちと同じく…修学旅行生も多かったです。
There were plenty of tourists from overseas here, but just like Leon and Ark…there were also lots of school trip students.
橋の下に流れる桂川。
The Katsura River floｗs beneath the bridge.
川のせせらぎが情緒を誘います♪
The gentle sound of the stream creates peaceful, atmospheric mood♪
数羽の「鷺」が水辺で戯れていました
Several herons were playing along the water’s edge.

小倉百人一首ゆかりの小倉山と愛宕山(右奥)。
Mount Oguraー associated with the Ogura Hyakunin Isshuーand Mount Atago (in the distance on the right).
山沿い方面の川ではボートも乗れます。
You can also ride boats on the part of the river along the mountains.
「時間があったら乗りたかったのに…残念💧」
“If we had more time, I would’ve loved to try it…what a shame. 💧

It was packed with tourists crossing back and forth.

Leon and ark also took a commemorative photo, feeling refreshed and relaxed.
その後、渡月橋真横にあったお土産屋さんで、「抹茶とほうじ茶のラスク」を購入しました♪
After that, they bought some matcha and houjicha rusks at a souvenir shop right beside Togetsu Bridge. ♪
レオンは上司マービン・ブラナーと、先輩ケビン・ライマンへのお土産にしたようです。
It seems Leon picked them out as souvenirs for his boss, Marvin Branagh, and his senior colleague, Kevin Ryman.
(中学生設定はどうした💧？)
(Wait…what happened to the ‘middle school student’ setting？💧)
メインストリートを散策しつつ、京福電鉄嵐山線(嵐電〈らんでん〉)嵐山駅へ。
Strolling along the main street, they headed toward Arashiyama Station on the Keifuku Arashiyama Line.
この路面電車に乗ります♪
They’re taking this streetcar♪
「観光客はほとんどいなくて、地元の人が多いし…オレたちちょっと浮いてるな💧」
” There aren’t many tourists on hereー mostly locals…we kind of stand out. 💧”
止まりたい停留所がある場合は、バスのように近くのボタンを押す形式。

途中、「帷子ノ辻(かたびらがつじ)駅」で嵐山本線から北野線に乗り換えて、向かった先は…、
Along the way, they transferred from the Arashiyama Main Line to the Kitano Line at Katabiragatsuji Station, and the place they were heading to was…
仁和寺
Ninna-ji Temple
これがパンフレットと入場券。
Here are the brochure and the admission ticket.
仁和寺御所庭園拝観と霊宝館(資料館)見学料…合わせて、1,300円納めました。
The combined fee for visiting the Ninna-ji Temple Goten Garden and the Reihokan Museum was 1,300yen.
仁和寺にも枯山水の素晴らしいお庭があります。
Ninna-ji Temple also has a wonderful dry landscape (karesansui) garden.
思ったよりも、敷地面積が広くて驚きました！
They were surprised－ the grounds were much larger than they had expected！
仁和寺といえば…卜部兼好(吉田兼好)の「徒然草」。
Speaking of Ninna-ji Temple…it’s associated with Kenkō Yoshida (Urabe kenkō) and his Tsurezuregusa.
清少納言「枕草子」、鴨長明「方丈記」と並ぶ、日本３大随筆の１つですね。
It’s one of Japan’s three great essays, alongside Sei Shōnagon’s The Pillow Book and Kamo no Chōmei’s Hōjōki.
仁和寺の近くにある双ヶ丘(ならびがおか)に卜部兼好が住んだため、「徒然草」は仁和寺に関する説話が多いんですって！
Since Urabe Kenkō lived at Narabi-ga -oka, near Ninna-ji Temple, many stories in Tsurezuregusa are related to Ninna-ji Temple！
「随筆」とは、身近で起きた出来事、噂話、感想文などを日記風にまとめたもの。
A Zuihitsu is a collection of observations, gossip, or personal reflections written in a diary-like style.
…今でいう「エッセイ」ですね。
…In modern terms, it’s basically an ‘essay.’
もっというなら、今、あなたが読んでいるこのブログみたいな記事や、X(旧Twitter)でポストしている(呟いている)感覚とちょっと似てますかね💧
To put it another way, it’s a bit like the kind of blog posts you’re reading now, or the feeling of posting on X.💧
それが、500年以上経てば…歴とした文学になるんですもん…すごい話ですよね。
And after 500 years, it becomes recognized as proper literature…it’s pretty amazing when you think about it.
まぁ、当時の暮らしが伺えるものとして大いに参考になるのは、こういった一個人の感想文…本音の方が堅苦しい文章よりは真実に近くて、役立つのでしょうけど…。
Well, as a way to get a glimpse of life back then, these personal reflections…their honest thought are probably closer to the truth and more useful than formal, stiff writing…
…と、あまりにも画像に収めたいものが多すぎて、レオンとアークの修学旅行から話が反れてしまいました💧
…There were just too many things we wanted to capture in photos, and the story has drifted away from Leon and Ark’s school trip. 💧

なんと、ここ仁和寺で…あの藤井聡太さんの「竜王戦」の対局が行われました
(2022年10月21・22日)
Believe it or not, at Ninna-ji Temple… a game from Sōta Fujii’s Ryūō Tournament was held here！
(October 21-22, 2022)
ここのお部屋が会場だったようです。
It seems this room served as the venue.
こんな素晴らしいお庭を眺めながら、対局するって…どんな感じなんでしょうね？
Playing a match while overlooking such a beautiful garden…I wonder what that must feel like？
きっと、優雅でゆったりした時の流れの中…お茶をすすりつつ…、
なんてことはないんでしょうね💦
Surely, it’s not like a leisurely, elegant moment…sipping tea and all that…💦
あくまでも、真剣勝負の世界なんですから！ 緊張感ピリピリだと思います。
After all, it’s a world of serious competition, so I’m sure the tension is intense.
ここから先は、御影堂。
Beyond this point is the Mikage-dō Hall.
中は立ち入り禁止だけど、
The interior is off-limits, but…
撮影OKなので記念にパチリ
Photography was allowed, so they took a commemorative photo
敷地にある、たくさんの広いお庭。
The grounds are home to many spacious gardens.
どこも手入れが行き届いて…キレイで美しい
Each one is meticulously maintained…clean and beautiful
…ここは、桃源郷かも♪ …な１枚
…This might be a slice of paradise♪…what a shot
そして、仁和寺にも…、
And at Ninna-ji Temple as well…
「４亡遊戯！」
“Game of Death！”
「スパルタンX！」
“Spartan X！”
違います💧！ これぞ、五重塔です‼ 各階に強い敵はいません。
No, that’s not it！💧
This is the five-story pagoda‼
There aren’t any strong enemies on each level.
36.2ｍあるそうです。(重要文化財)
It’s said to be 36.2 meters tall. (Important Cultural Property)
真下から見上げたアングル。

そして、↑ここが国宝の「金堂」。
And here is the Kondo Hall, a National Treasure.
ご本尊の阿弥陀如来を安置しています。
It houses the principal image of Amida Nyorai.
中は、通常非公開。
The interior is usually closed to the public.
春秋の特別拝観で内部拝観できることもあるそうです。
During special spring and autumn viewings, it may be possible to see inside.
鐘撞き堂。見上げるほどの高い位置にあります。
The bell tower.
It’s positioned so high that you have to look up to see it.
そして、↑ここが水掛不動尊！
And here is the Mizukake Fudō-sanama！
中に不動明王像が立っていて、像の足元にある湧き水から、長～い柄杓で水をすくい、願い事をしながら、その水を不動明王さまにぶっかける！
Inside stands a statue of Fudō-Myōō.
You scoop water from the spring at the statue’s feet using along ladle, and pour it over Fudō Myōō while making a wish！
ただし、願い事は１つだけです‼
But you’re only allowed to make one wish!!
「〈ぶっかける〉は言い過ぎだけど…確かに不動明王さまに水を掛けるのは気が引けるな～💧 罰は当たらない？」
“Saying ‘pour it over’ might be too much, but I do feel a bit hesitant about splashing water on Fudō Myōō…💧
Hope we don’t punish？”
「逆に、〈掛けて欲しい、掛けてくれ～！〉くらいに思ってるかもよ？
こんな立派な建物で待ち構えてるし♪」
“On the contrary, he might be thinking, ‘Go ahead, pour it on me！’
After all, he ‘s waiting here in such a grand building♪”
「そっか～♪ じゃあ、ここは遠慮なく！」
“I see～♪ Then we won’t hold back here！”
不動明王さまの頭から水を掛けながら、お願い事をしました。
They made their wishes while pouring water over Fudō Myōō’s head.
…で、何をお願いしたのかな？
…So, what did they wish for？
＆「だから、内緒だってば！」
“We said it’s a secret！”
最後に、経蔵(きょうぞう)を拝見。
Finally, they visited the Kyōzō.
経典などを納めておく蔵のことを言います(重要文化財)。
It’s a storehouse for sutras and other sacred texts. (Important Cultural Property)
そして、御朱印も戴きました♪
And they also received the goshuin (temple stamps) ♪
上は弘法大師。下は阿弥陀如来。
The top one features Kōbō Daishi. The bottom one features Amida Nyorai.
その後、弘法大師さまの直筆のメモ帳(💧)や、毘沙門天像などが展示してある霊宝館を見学。
After that, they visited the Reihokan Museum, which houses Kōbō Daishi’s handwritten notebooks 💧 and a statue of Bishamonten.

霊宝館をあとにした２人は、ちょっと遅いお昼タイム！
After leaving the Reihokan Museum, the two of them had a slightly late lunch！
仁和寺を出て、外で食べようと思ったけど、仁和寺内にある食事処「御室会館」で美味しそうなものを発見！
They considered eating outside after leaving Ninna-ji, but they spotted something delicious at Omuro Kaikan, a restaurant inside the temple grounds！
今日のお昼は、ここに決めました♪
They decidedー today’s lunch would be here♪
レオンが頼んだのは「天ざるそばセット」！
Leon ordered the ’Tempura Zaru Soba Set’！
「稲荷寿司～♡ それだけで、ここで食べることに決めました♪
うどんも選べたけど、暑かったから蕎麦を選んじゃった！
汁に梅干し～？って思ったけど、これがとっても合うんだ‼
さっぱりしてクセになる…今度からは、そばつゆ＋梅干し…必ず欲しい薬味のレギュラーになりそうだ♪
天ぷらは、海苔の天ぷらがサクサクして美味しかったな～♫」
” Inari sushi～♪
Just that alone made me decide to eat here！
I could have chosen udon too, but it was hot, so I went with soba！
Umeboshi in the dipping sauceー huh？
I thoughtー but it actually goes perfectly!!
Refreshing and addictive…from now on, soba dipping sauce ＋ umeboshi is definitely going to be my regular must-have condiment♪
The tempura was great tooー the nori tempura was crispy and delicious～♪”
そして、アークが頼んだものは「湯葉うどんセット」！
And what Ark ordered was the ’Yuba Udon Set’！
「こっちにも、稲荷寿司と梅干～♡
やっぱり、京都に来たら…湯葉は食べなきゃ！…でしょ？
思ったより歯ごたえがあって、梅干し入りの汁によく合う！
温かいうどんだったけど、暑さより美味さが勝って、また汁まで全部飲み干しちゃった～♪」
“And it comes with inari sushi and uｍeboshi too～♡
After all, if you came to Kyoto…you’ve got to eat yuba, right？
It was chewier than I expected, and it went perfectly with the broth that had umeboshi in it！
Even though it was warm udon, the deliciousness won over the heat, and I ended up drinking all the broth too～♪”
京都に来て、食べ物はハズレ知らず！ な２人。
In Kyoto, they never seem to pick a bad meal！ That’s Leon and Ark for you.
食事の後は、お土産タイム♪
After lunch, it was souvenir time♪
レオンたちが選んだのは、仁和寺にしかない…おみくじ付きガチャ！ １回500円‼
What Leon and Ark picked was a unique Ninna-ji-only gacha with an omikuji (fortune)！
500yen per try!!
出たフィギュアは、仁和寺の二王門。おみくじは小吉で、仁和寺の木に結んできちゃいました。
The figure that came out was Ninna-ji’s Niōmon Gate.
The omikuji was a ‘Shōkichi’ (small blessing), and they tried it to a tree at Ninna-ji.
それと、五大明王が描かれた「しおりセット」。
They also got a bookmark set featuring the Five Great Myōō.
レオン宅の玄関先に飾って、魔除けにしようと購入しました♪
They bought it to display at the entrance of Leon’s house as a charm for protection♪
仁和寺…こんなに楽しめて、こんなに立派で見所があるお寺だとは思いませんでした！
We never expected Ninna-ji to be such an enjoyable temple, so grand and full of sights to see！
しかも、そんなに観光客でごみごみしてなくて、ゆっくりお庭も眺められたし…♡
And on top of that, it wasn’t overly crowded with tourists, so we could take our time enjoying the gardens…♡
「…あぁ、本当に来て良かった～♪」
“…Ah, I’m really glad we came～♪”
名残惜しそうに、仁和寺をあとにした２人。次の目的地に向かいます♪
Reluctantly leaving Ninna-ji behind, the two of them headed to their next destination.
まだまだ続く…レオンとアーク…幼馴染の修学旅行珍道中。
