Leon’s Hyakunin issyu♪ 【９. Ono no komachi】
９. 花の色は うつりにけりな いたづらに わが身世にふる ながめせし間に
↑小野小町に扮したエイダ。
Ada dressed as Ono no komachi.
自身の若さと美しさを、枯れた花に見立てて嘆いています💧
She laments the fading of her youth and beauty, comparing them to a withered flower. 💧
「老い」は誰もが通る道…。
Aging is something everyone goes through…
でも、「今でもエイダは十分キレイだ
」と思うレオンなのでした～♪
But Leon thinks, “You’re still beautiful as ever” ♪
上の句…はなのいろは うつりにけりな いたづらに
The first half…Hana no iro wa uturini kerina itazurani
下の句…わがみよにふる ながめせしまに
The second half…Waga mi yo ni furu nagame seshi ma ni
現代訳…桜の花の色は、むなしく色あせてしまった。私がこの世で物思いにふけっている間に。
Modern Translation … The cherry blossoms have faded away in vain, while I have been lost in thought in this world.
解説…「花」は、「女性の美しさ・若さ」を暗示しています。
Explanation … “Flowers” symbolize a woman’s beauty and youth.
「うつりにけりな」は、「花の色」にかかる動詞で「色あせる・衰える」という意味。
「な」は、感嘆の助動詞なので「色あせ衰えてしまったなぁ」となります。
”Utsurinikeri na” is a verb phrase describing the color of the flowers, meaning “to fade” or “to wither.” The particle “na” expresses an exclamation, so the phrase conveys the feeling, “Oh, how they have faded and withered away!”
「いたづらに」は「無駄に」や「むなしく」という意味。
“Itazurani” means “in vain” or “futilely.”
「わが身」はそのまま自分自身のこと。
“Waga mi” simply refers to oneself.
「世にふる」の「世」は、「世代」と「男女の仲」という二重の意味の掛詞。
In “yo ni furu,” the word “yo” is a kakekotoba (a pivot word with two meanings), referring both to “the world or one’s lifetime” and to “the relationship between a man and a woman.”
「ふる」も「(雨が)降る」と「経る(時間が経過する)」が掛けてあり、「ずっと降り続く雨の憂鬱さ」と「年を取っていく私」という意味が重なっています。
Likewise, “furu” has two meanings: “to fall” (as in rain) and “to pass” (as in time). These meanings overlap, expressing both the melancholy of rain that continues to fall and the speaker’s own aging as time passes.
「ながめせしまに」の「眺め」は「物思い」と「長雨」の掛詞で、「物思いにふけっている間に」と「長雨が降っている間に」という二重の意味があります。
In “nagame seshi ma ni,” “nagame” is another kakekotoba, meaning both “deep contemplation” and “prolonged rain.” Thus, it conveys two meanings at once: “while I was lost in thought” and “while the long rains continued to fall.”
そして、恋の嘆きや人生の儚さを表しています。
Together, these expressions convey the sorrow of unfulfilled love and the fleeting nature of life.
「ながめせし間に」 →「わが身世にふる」と上の句に続く倒置法になっています。
The phrase “nagame seshi ma ni” is placed before “waga mi yo ni furu” in an inverted word order, creating a rhetorical effect.
…つまりこの歌は、すっかり色あせてしまった花を、老いてしまって…かつての美しさが衰えた自分の姿を重ねた歌。
… In other words, this poem compares the flowers that have completely faded with the speaker herself, who has grown old and lost the beauty she once possessed.
または、外見の衰えだけでなく、恋が実らずに心もすっかり衰えてしまったという意味もあります。
Alternatively, it may express not only the decline of physical beauty but also the idea that her heart has withered away after her love failed to come to fruition.
※小野小町(生没不明)とは？…平安時代前期(９世紀頃)の女流歌人。六歌仙、三十六歌仙、女房三十六歌仙のひとり。絶世の美女といわれているが、その詳細は謎多き人物💧
Who was Ono no Komachi (dates of birth and death unknown)? … She was a female poet of the early Heian period (around the 9th century). She was one of the Six Poetry Immortals (Rokkasen), the Thirty-Six Immortal Poets (Sanjūrokkasen), and the Thirty-Six Female Immortal Poets. She is said to have been an extraordinarily beautiful woman, although many details about her life remain a mystery. 💧
「絶世の美女だったんだ～♪ 小野小町⁈」
“She was an absolutely gorgeous beauty, huh~♪ Ono no Komachi?!”
