とうとう、最後の目的地。
At last, the final destination.
1994年、ユネスコ世界遺産に登録された…二条城
にやって来ました！
We’ve arrived at Nijo Castle, which was registered as a UNESCO world Heritage Site in 1994！
↑ここが東大手門(重要文化財)。
This is the Higashi Omotemon Gate (an Important Cultural Property).
二条城の正門にあたります。
It serves as the main entrance to Nijo Castle.

入場料1,300円を納めました。
They paid an entrance fee of 1,300 yen.

国宝・二の丸御殿の内部が細かく説明されています。
It provides detailed explanations of the interior of the Ninomaru Palace, a National Treasure.

そして、↑これが唐門(重要文化財)。
And this here is the Karamon Fate (an Important Cultural Property).
「この唐門は、二の丸御殿の正門にあたるんだって！」
“They say this Karamon Gate serves as the main entrance to the Ninomaru Palace！”

“From one main gate to another💧 Still, it’s incredibly ornate💦”
「よく見ると、〈松竹梅と鶴〉、〈唐獅子〉がいる！ 縁起が良いものばかりだな♪」
“Lock closelyー there are motifs of pine, bamboo, plum, and cranes, as well as karajishi (Chinese guardian lions) ！”
「〈松竹梅と鶴〉は長寿を意味して、〈唐獅子〉は聖域を守護する聖獣なんだそうだ。」
“Pine, bamboo, plum, and cranes represent longevity, and the karajishi are sacred beasts said to guard holy places.”
「…へぇ～。
……………💧 見上げ過ぎて、首が痛くなっちゃった💦」
“…Wow.
…I’ve been looking up so much, my neck’s starting to hurt💦”
そして、唐門をくぐると…、二条城のメイン…二の丸御殿内部へ！
And passing through the Karamon Gate…they head into the main highlight of Nijo Castle, the interior of the Ninomaru Palace！
…と、残念ながら、内部は撮影禁止💧
…But unfortunately, photography is not allowed inside💧
外観を眺めながら、レオンたちの音声だけでお楽しみください。

「な、何、この廊下～💦 歩くと、キュッキュ、キュッキュ…音が鳴る～！」
“W-what is with this hallway💦？
Every step goes squeak, squeak…！”
「建物の古さのせいで軋んだ音がしてるわけじゃなく、わざと鳴らすように作られた廊下なんだそうだ！」
“It’s not creaking because the building’s oldー it was actually designed to make those sounds on purpose！”
「本当だ～！ 人が歩くと鳥のさえずりのような音が鳴るように、〈鶯張り〉っていう構造で作られているんだって！ 面白い♪」
“You’re right！
It’s built with a ‘nightingale floor’ structure, so when people walk on it, it sounds like birds chirping!!
That’s so cool♪”
二条城は、慶長８年(1603) 、江戸幕府初代将軍・徳川家康が天皇の住む京都御所の守護と将軍上洛の際の宿泊所とするために築城したもの。
Nijo Castle was constructed in 1603 by Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Edo shogunate, to protect the Kyoto imperial Palace－ the residence of the emperor－ and to serve as a lodging place during the shogun’s visits to Kyoto.
慶応３年(1867) 、15代将軍・慶喜が二の丸御殿の大広間で「大政奉還」の意志を表明したことで有名ですね。
It is also famous as the site where Tokugawa Yoshinobu, the 15th shogun, declared intention to carry out the Taisei Hokan (the restoration of political power to the emperor) in 1867 in the grand hall of the Ninomaru Palace.
徳川家の栄枯盛衰を見つめてきた建築物でもあります。
It is a structure that has witnessed the rise and fall of the Tokugawa family.

そして、この二条城…二の丸御殿だけではない！
And Nijo Castle isn’t just about the Ninomaru Palace！
お庭…二の丸庭園も見どころの１つ‼
The gardens－ especially the Ninomaru Gardenー are also one of its highlights!!
特別名勝にも指定されています！
It has also been designated a Special Place of Scenic Beauty.
※特別名勝とは？…国(文部科学大臣)が文化財保護法に基づいて指定した史跡・天然記念物などをこと。
A Special Place of Scenic Beauty is a site－ such as a historic site or natural monument－ designated by the national government under the Law for the Protection of Cultural Properties.
…つまり、国も認めているスゴイ「お庭」ってことですね
…In other words, it’s an officially recognized, truly remarkable garden
池の中央に蓬莱島、左右に鶴亀の島を配した書院造庭園です。
It is a shoin-style garden, with Horai Island placed at the center of the pond, and crane and turtle islands arranged to the left and right.
二の丸御殿の大広間・黒書院・行幸御殿の３方向から鑑賞できるように、木々や岩の配置など…とても工夫して作られているそうです。
It is said that the placement of tree and rocks has been carefully designed so that the garden can be appreciated from three directions: the Grand Hall, the Kuroshoin, and the Gyoko Palace of the Ninomaru Palace.
↑おっと、こちらは、素晴らしいお庭に佇む…バイオ界のイケメンことレオン・Ｓ・ケネディですね。
↑Oh－ what do we have here？
Standing in this beautiful garden…it’s none other than Leon S. Kennedy, the handsome heartthrob of the Resident Evil series.
本人は意図してないが…誰をも虜にする、この「dazzling smile」(まぶしい笑顔)。
Though he doesn’t intend it, this dazzling smile captivates everyone…
見つめ過ぎると惚れてまうので、お気を付けください💧
Be beautiful－ it you stare too long; you might just fall for him 💧
外堀の水は、抹茶(💧)のような色。
The water in the outer moat had a matcha-like color💧
こんな４んでる水(💧)でも大きな鯉が元気に生息していました。
Even in such murky (and honestly pretty dirty) water, large carps were living there quite energetically 💧
おしどりも何羽か優雅に回遊中♪
A few mandarin ducks were also gracefully gliding around♪
そして、本丸御殿へ。
And then, on to the Honmaru Palace.

最終日も天気に恵まれ、25℃越えの陽気でした。
They were blessed with great weather on the final day as well, with temperatures climbing above 25℃.
それでも、ところどころに二条城のお庭にも秋の訪れ…木々が紅葉を始めたようです。
Even so, signs of autumn were beginning to appear here and there in the gardens of Nijo Castle…it seems the trees had started to turn.

The Honmaru Garden was wonderful as well
お堀をぐるっと１周。
They made a full loop around the castle.
外堀の遊歩道も梅の木や桜の木、全てキレイに手入れされていて…目の保養になりました。
The promenade along the outer moat was beautifully maintained, with plum and cherry trees all neatly cared for…it was a real feast for the eyes.

外堀を回った…最後に、「桜の園」でベンチに座り、飲み物休憩。
After circling the outer moat, they took a break at the “Sakura Garden,” sitting on a bench and enjoying some drinks.
少し紅葉した桜を眺めながら…温かい日差しを一身に受けて、物思いにふけます。
Gazing at the slightly reddened cherry trees…they basked in the warm sunlight, lost in thought.
「あ～楽しかったな～修学旅行♪
子供の頃とは違った視点で京都に旅行に来れて…本当に良かった♡」
“Ahh, that was so much fun－ this school trip♪
I’m really glad I got to visit Kyoto again with a different perspective than when I was a kid♡”
「おい、中学生設定は

“Hey！ What happened to the whole ‘we’re middle schoolers’ setting？”
「この際どうでも良いよ～💧
中学生のように童心に返って、ハシャゲたしさ～♪」
“At this point, who cares anymore💧
We got to let loose and have fun like middle schoolers again, after all♪”
「まぁな！
いつも生きるか４ぬかの生活をしているオレたちには、最高のひと時だったよ♪」
“Yeah, true！
For us, always living on the edge between life and death, it was a perfect moment♪”
「今回は有名スポットばかりを訪れたけど、次はもっと穴場的なところにも行ってみたいな！」
“This time we mostly visited the famous spots, but next time I’d like to check out some more hidden gems！”
「こんなの序の口！ 京都はまだまだdeepなところがいっぱいありますよ…レオンさん‼」
“This is just the beginning！
Kyoto still has plenty of deep spots to explore, Leon!!”
「だろうね♪ 季節が変わるだけでも違うだろうし！ 今度は絶対春に来よう‼」
“I bet♪
Even just changing seasons would make it feel totally different！
Next time, let’s definitely come in spring!!”
「…それまでに、世界からバイオテロがなくなると良いんだけど…な💧

“…I just hope bioterrorism will be gone the world by then…💧
…Though who knows when that’ll be 💦”

ゲームのナンバリングはまだまだ続いているんだしさ💦」
” …P-please don’t say that, Ark！
The mainline games are still going strong, after all💦”
「スピンオフ作品の主人公だったオレの戦いはもうとっくに終わってるけどね～💧
オレの存在なんて、みんな忘れてるし
この前なんてCGアニメ〈バイオハザード ダムネーション〉のサーシャとかいうヤツと間違えられるし！
オレは、いくらなんでも(リッカー使いになるために)闇堕ちはしねぇよ‼」
“Ny story as the protagonist of a spin-off already ended a long time ago, though💧
Everyone’s pretty much forgotten I even exist!!
Just the other day, I got mistaken for some guy named Sasha from the CG movie Resident Evil: Damnation！
No way I’d ever go dark like thatー especially just to become some kind of Licker handler!!”
「…最後の最後に、不満を漏らすなよ～💧 話もメタいし…。」
” Don’t start venting right at the very end💧
And this is getting way too meta…”
「…すまない。日頃の鬱憤が…飛び出しちまった💧
今はこの修学旅行のことだけを考えよう。
…そろそろ、荷物を取りにホテルに戻ろうぜ。」
“…Sorry.
All that pent-up frustration just slipped out 💧
For now, let’s just focus on this school trip.
…It’s about time we head back to the hotel and grab our luggage.”

なぜかひれ伏したくなるのは、時代劇の見過ぎ？
Maybe it’s just from watching too many period dramas, but it almost makes you want to bow down…

“Do you not recognize this crest?!”
荷物をホテルに取りに行くために、地下鉄を使い「京都駅」経由で再び「十条駅」へ。
To pick up their luggage, they took the subway via Kyoto Station and headed back to Jujo Station.
↑こちらが２泊してお世話になった「アリストンホテル」の正面入り口。
↑This is the front entrance of the Ariston Hotel, where they stayed for two nights.

特別な日には、何か催し物でもあるのかな？
I wonder if they hold special events there on certain occasions.
その後、フロントで荷物を受け取り、ホテルをあとにし、一路「京都駅」へ。
After that, they picked up our luggage at the front desk, left the hotel, and headed straight for Kyoto Station.
…と、その前に余談ですが、ホテルのある「十条駅」からすぐの場所に任天堂本社があります！
…But before that, a little side noteー just a short walk from Jujo Station, where the hotel is located, is the headquarters of Nintendo！

Final souvenir shopping time at Kyoto Station♪
聖護院の「八ツ橋」(硬め)と、
Yatsuhashi (the crunchy type) from Shogoin, and…
京都でしか買えない…宇治抹茶味の「ブラックサンダー」を買いました♪
They also picked up some Uji matcha-flavored Black Thunder, which you can only get in Kyoto♪
…応仁の乱以来の衝撃！って💧
…The biggest shock since the Onin War！ …Seriously？💧
そして、京都のご当地グルメ…というか、京都人のソウルフード💧と言われている「カルネ」
And then there’s Kyoto’s local specialty…or rather, what’s often called a Kyoto soul food 💧ー the Carne
京都の老舗ベーカリー「志津屋」のパン。
A bread from the long-established Kyoto bakery Shizuya.
ドイツ風のフランスパンに、「志津屋」オリジナルのマーガリンを塗り、ハムと細切り玉ねぎを挟んだ…おかずパン♪
It’s a savory sandwich made with a German-style French bread, spread with Shizuya’s original margarine, and filled with ham and thinly sliced onions♪
なんと、京都の各所にある自販機でも売られています！
Amazingly, you can even buy it from vending machines all around Kyoto！
レオンたちは「二条城前駅」の自販機で購入。
Leon and Ark bought theirs from vending machine in front of Nijojo-mae Station.
レンジでほんのり温めて食べると、とてもおいしかったです♪
Lightly warming it in the microwave made it even more delicious♪
「時間通りだな！ …小童(こわっぱ)ども‼」
“Right on time！…You little punks!!”
＆「あ！ バリー先生ち～っす‼」
“Ah！ Hey, Mr. Barryー good to see you!!”
「どうだ？ 京都は楽しめたか⁉」
“So？ Did you enjoy Kyoto?!”
＆「は～い！ とても楽しめました～♪」
“Yes, we did！ We had a great time♪”
「それは良かったな♪
明日からは、オレのハンドガン改造術の講習をみっちり８時間受けてもらうからな！
そして、すぐにテストだ‼ 覚悟しとけよ！」
“Glad to hear it♪
Starting tomorrow, you’ll be going through a full eight- hour intensive on my handgun modification techniques！
And then comes the test right after!!
You’d better be ready！”

“Yes, sir！ We’ll do our best 💦!!”
この日の歩数は、20,260歩！
The step count for this day was 20,260！
最終日なので３日間の中では一番少ないですが、この日も２万歩を越えました💦
Since it was the final day, it was the lowest of the three－ but we still walked over 20,000 steps💦
３日間のトータル…約76,000歩‼
The total for all three days…about 76,000 steps!!
結構、歩き回った3日間でした。
They really did a lot of walking over those three days.

↑この「のぞみ」に乗って、一旦、東京に戻り、佐賀県に帰ります！
They’ll be taking ↑this Nozimi back to Tokyo first and then returning to Saga Prefecture！
