Raccoon Junior High’s school Trip ♪ ５
仁和寺を心ゆくまで楽しんだ…レオンとアークの幼馴染Raccoon中学御一行。
After fully enjoying their visit to Ninna-ji, Leon, Ark, and their fellow classmates from Raccoon Middle School－ childhood friends traveling togetherー
再び、「御室仁和寺」からバスに乗り…約10分。
boarded the bus once again at Omuro Ninna-ji…about a ten-minute ride.
停留所「竜安寺前」で降りました。
From the bus stop, they got off at Ryoanji-mae.
目の前には…龍安寺
Right in front of them was…Ryōan-ji
宝徳２年(1450)に大徳寺家の別荘だったものを管領・細川勝元が譲り受けて創建されたものだそうです。
It is said that Hōtoku ２ (1450), Kanrei Katsumoto Hosokawa received what had originally been a villa of the Daitoku-ji family and founded the temple there.
「Da, DAITOKUJI…？ HOSOKAWA⁉」
「…WHO？」
肝心なところで、完全なアメリカ人に戻っちゃう２人💧
Right at the most important part, the two of them completely reverted to being Americans again💧
異国の歴史は個人的に興味がないと分かりませんものね…💦
After all, if you don’t have a personal interest in another country’s history, it’s hard to understand it…💦
これで、「りゅうあんじ」ではなく、「りょうあんじ」と読みます。
This is why it’s read ‘Ryōan-ji,‘ not ‘Ryūan-ji.’
バスの停の名前は竜で、お寺は龍なのは、なぜなんでしょうね？
I wonder why the bus stop uses the character for ‘ryū’ (竜), while the temple itself uses ‘ryū‘ written as 龍？
そんな疑問を抱きつつ、早速拝観。
Still wondering about that, they went ahead and began their visit right away.
龍安寺といえば、この石庭…枯山水が超有名
Speaking of Ryōan-ji, this rock garden…its karesansui dry landscape garden is incredibly famous
このブログのタイトルにもなっている…「そうだ、京都、行こう」でお馴染みのＪＲ東海のCMにも登場したお寺。
It’s also the temple that appeared in JR Tokai’s well-known commercial, familiar from the phrase featured in this blog’s title: ‘So, let’s go to Kyoto.’
↑これが、パンフレットと、入場券。入館料500円を納めました。
↑This is the pamphlet and the admission ticket.
They paid the 500-yen entrance fee.
龍安寺の周りには、全景が眺められる鏡容池(きょうようち)が広がっています。
Around Ryōan-ji stretches Kyōyō- chi Pond, where you can take in a view of the entire grounds.
かつては、おしどりが戯れ遊んでいたことから「おしどり池」と呼ばれていたそうです。
It’s said that it was once called ‘Oshidori Pound‘ because mandarin ducks used to play and frolic there.
↑よく見ると、今でもおしどりがたくさんいます。
↑If you look closely, there are still plenty of mandarin ducks here even now.
白くて大きなアヒルも泳いでますね。
There’s also a big white duck swimming around.
そして、このために来た！…といっても過言ではない…石庭とごた～いめ～ん
And now, the moment they came all this way for！
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say this was the main reason…their long-awaited meeting with the rock garden
＆
「Wah！ The Rock Garden‼」
東西25ｍ、南北10ｍに白砂を引きつめ、15個の石を配したお庭。
A garden measuring 25 meters east to west and 10 meters north to south, covered in white gravel and arranged with fifteen stones.
庭を囲む土塀は菜種油を混ぜた土で作られています。
The earthen wall surrounding the garden is made from clay mixed with rapeseed oil.
どこから眺めても、１度に全部の石を見ることが出来ず、その石の配置の意味は未だに謎に包まれているそうです。
It’s said that no matter where you view it from, you can never see all the stones at once, and the meaning behind their arrangement still remains a mystery.
その感性は見る人の自由な解釈に委ねられています。
Its meaning is left to the viewer’s own free interpretation.
レオンにアーク…２人はどう感じたかな？
Leon and Ark…I wonder what the two of them felt when they saw it？

「………。」
＆「…見れば見るほど、謎が深まる～💦」
“…The more we look at it, the deeper the mystery gets…💦”
「けど、歴史の重さは感じられるよな！
この庭を造った人はエンターテイメントというものを分かっている人だ‼」
“But you can definitely feel the weight of history, right？
The person who created this garden really understood what entertainment is!!”
「そうだな！ 何度も足を運んで、いろんな角度からこの庭を眺めたくなる…見飽きさせない作りになってるし♪」
“Yeah！ It makes you want to come back again and again and look at it from different angles…It’s designed in a way that you never get tired of it♪”
そして、龍安寺のもう１つの名物！
And another famous highlight of Ryōan-ji！
つくばいと侘助椿(わびすけつばき)‼
The tsukubai stone washbasin and the Wabisuke camellia!!
※「蹲(つくばい)」とは？…日本庭園の添景物の１つで茶室がある庭に設置されるもの。
What is a tsukubai？…It is one of the decorative elements found in a traditional Japanese garden, typically placed in a garden with a tea room.
その茶室に入る前に手を清めるために置かれた手水鉢のこと。
It refers to a stone water basin set there so that guests can cleanse their hands before entering the tea room.
茶室という特別な空間に向かうための結界(💧)でもあるそうです。
It is also said to serve as a kind of boundary before entering the special space (💧) of the tearoom.
手水で手を洗う時、「つくばう(しゃがむ)」から…が名前の由来なのだそう。
The name is said to come from tsukubauー meaning ‘to crouch’－ since you have to bend down when washing your hands at the basin.
※「侘助椿」とは？…安土桃山時代に「侘助」という人物が朝鮮から持ち帰ったことで、このように名付けられたと言われています。
What is the Wabisuke camelia？…It is said to have been named after a man called Wabisuke, who brought it back from Korea during the Azuchi-Momoyama period.
毎年、３月上旬から４月上旬に開花。
It blooms every year from early March to early April.
千利休や多くの茶人たちに愛され、豊臣秀吉によって賞賛された花で、ここに咲いているのは日本最古のものだそうです。
Loved by Sen no Rikyū and many tea masters, and praised by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the camellia growing here is said to be the oldest of its kind in Japan.
「…SE, SENNO…？ HIDEYOSHI…⁉」
「…So, who are you talking about⁉」
龍安寺の銭形のつくばいには、文字が書かれています。
Characters are carved into Ryōan-ji’s Zenigata tsukubai.
一見、「五、唯みたいな字、足みたいな字、矢」に見えますが、つくばいの真ん中にある口をさっきの文字に足せば…、
「吾唯足知」(ワレタダタルヲシル)という…禅の格言になります。
At first glance, they look like the characters ‘五,’ ‘a character that looks like 唯,’ ‘something like a 足,’ and ‘an 矢,’
But if you add the square ‘口’ in the center of the basin to those characters…
…it forms the Zen saying ‘Ware tada taru o shiru‘ (I simply know what is enough.)
粋ですね～♪
Pretty stylish, isn’t it？
あの水戸光圀が寄進したものだそうです。
It is said to have been donated by nine other than Mito Kōmon, Tokugawa Mitsukuni.
そして、最後に鏡容池の周りを１周。
And finally, they took a walk all the way around Kyōyō-chi Pond.
鏡容池から見える大珠院がまた趣があって良し
The view of Daiju-in from Kyōyō-chi Pomd has a charm of its ownー truly beautiful
池に浮かぶおしどりも優雅に見えます。
The mandarin ducks floating on the pond look so graceful.
＆「はんなりおしどり～♪」

大迫力の御朱印もありがたく戴きました♡
They also gratefully received a goshuin, bold and impressive in its calligraphy♡
再び、バス停「竜安寺前」まで戻ってきた２人。
The two then made their way back to the Ryōan-ji bus stop.
そこから、バスに揺られること約10分。
From there, they rode the bus for about ten minutes.
バス停「金閣寺道」で下車。
They got off at the Kinkaku-ji-dou bus stop.
文字通りのキンキラキン
Literally shining in brilliant gold
金閣寺にやってきました～
They’ve arrived at Kinkaku-ji♪
日本人なら誰もが知っている…足利３代目将軍・義満が創建したもの。
A place every Japanese person knows－ founded by Yoshimitsu Ashikaga, the third shogun of the Ashikaga shogunate.
「…YO, YOSHIMITU～？」
「…Got it, that’s enough！」
↑これが、パンフレットと入場券。
↑this is the pamphlet and the admission ticket.
入場券(右上)がお札みたいで、とても御利益がありそう♪
The admission ticket (top right) looks like a talisman, so it feels like it might bring good fortune♪
入場料400円を納めました。
They paid the 400-yen entrance fee.
金閣寺はあだ名みたいなもので、鹿苑寺が本当の名前。
Kinkaku-ji is more like a nickname－ temple’s actual name is Rokuon-ji.
池に映る金色の舎利殿がまた美しい
The golden Shariden Pavilion reflected in the pond is breathtakingly beautiful
「金閣寺は前から知っていたけど…、実際に見てこんなに…まさに黄金色だとは思わなかった！」
“I’d heard of Kinkaku-ji before but seeing it in person…I never imagined it would be this golden！”
「ホントだな！ 今、塗ったばかりのような色鮮やかさ♪」
“Seriously！
It looks so vivid－ like it was just freshly gilded♪”

Ark snapped a photo just as Leon suddenly turned around

“…A real handsome guy still looks handsome, even in a candid shot…💧” (muttering)

“Hm？ Did you say something?!”
「べ、別に～💦 金閣寺をバックに写真撮ってやったぞ！」

「ありがと～♪ じゃあ、オレも撮ってやるよ～！」
“Thank～♪ Then I’ll take one of you too！”

They had fun taking pictures of each other♪
そして、↑これが御朱印♪ 流れるような筆遣い～
And here is the goshuin they received♪
The brushstrokes flow so beautifully～
次の目的地のため、また「金閣寺道」からバスに乗り…約8分。
Then, heading for their next destination, they boarded the bus again from Kinkaku-ji-dou…about an ８-minute ride.
バス停「北野白梅駅前」で下車。
They got off at the Kitano Hakubai Station-mae bus stop.
そこから徒歩で約10分。
From there, it was about a 10-minute walk.
学問の神様・菅原道真を祀る…北野天満宮に到着！
They arrived at Kitano Tenmangū, the shrine dedicated to Sugawara no Michizaneー the god of learning
レオンたちも、一応(💧)学生なので、ここの神社は外せませんでした。
Since Leon and Ark are students tooー well, technically (💧) ー they couldn’t skip this shrine.
立派な門で仲良くパチリ

ここ北野天満宮は、日本全国にある天満宮・天神社の総本山。
Kitano Tenmangū is the head shrine of all Tenmangū and Tenjin shrines throughout Japan.
天歴元年(947) 、菅原道真の御神魂を祀ったのが始まりで、学業成就、合格祈願に訪れる学生の参拝が絶えません。
In Tenryaku １ (947), it began with the enshrinement of the spirit of Sugawara no Michizane, and ever since, students have continuously come here to pray for academic success and passing their exams.
「…立派な警察官になれますように！」
“…May I become an excellent police officer！”
「…困っている人を助けられる探偵になれますように！」
“…May I become a detective who can help people in trouble！”

💧」
＆「…って、なんか…、ここでお願いする内容じゃあない気がする～💦」
“…Wait, that doesn’t really feel like the kind of thing you’re supposed to wish for here…💦”
学業＝将来の夢…だから別に良いんじゃあない💦？
Well…since studying leads to your future dreams…maybe it still counts💦？
ここでも、しっかり御朱印を戴きました♡
They also made sure to receive a goshuin here♡
そして、ここで運試し！ おみくじタ～イム♪
And now, time to test their luck！ Omikuji time♪
さぁ今回、レオンが引いたのは…？
So then－ what fortune did Leon draw this time…？
「おぉ！ 中吉‼
願望→お恵みで運気上昇…お恵みって💧」
“Oh！ Chūkichi (moderate good luck)!!
Wish→ Your luck will improve through blessings…Blessings, huh💧”
続いて、アークが引いたのは…？
Next, let’s see what Ark draws…？
「う～ん、また小吉か。」
“Hmm…another shōkichi (small luck) …”
「やった～♪ またオレの勝ち！ これで３連勝♫」
“Yes♪ I win again！ That makes three wins in a row♫”
「…Got it, that’s enough…, zip
! 」
北野天満宮をあとにし、再びバスに乗り、京都の中心地…バス停「市役所前」で降りてすぐ。
After leaving Kitano Tenmangū, they boarded the bus once again and headed to central Kyoto…getting off at the Shiyakusho-mae bus stop.
そこは１番気になっていた場所…、
Right there was the place they had been most curious about…
本能寺にやってきました
There’ve arrived at Honnō-ji
↑パンフレットのみ。入場料はいりません。
↑Only a pamphlet hereー no admission fee required.
(宝物館は拝観料500円掛かります。)
(The treasure hall, however, has an entrance fee of 500 yen.)
…と言っても、あの「本能寺の変」があった場所とは違います。
That said, this isn’t actually the place where the famous Honnō-ji Incident happened.
事件の５年後に、豊臣秀吉によって現在の場所に移されたんですよね。
Five years after the incident, Toyotomi Hideyoshi had the temple moved to its present location.
閉館時間が迫っていたので、とりあえず、お参りをして、あとは御朱印だけはもらってきました💦
Since closing time was approaching, they quickly offered a prayer and at least made sure to receive a goshuin💦
そして、その後、アーケード商店街を散策しながらダラダラ歩いて約20分。
After that, they strolled along through the covered shopping streets, wandering leisurely for about twenty minutes.
あの明智光秀が謀反を起こした本能寺の変…本能寺跡にやってきました💦
They came to the site of the Honnō-ji Incident, where Akechi Mitsuhide launched his rebellion💦
現在は学校が建っていると聞いていたのですが…時代の流れですかね💦？
(多分)老人ホームになっていました。
I had heard that a school now stood here, but…I guess times change💦？
(It seemed to be) a nursing home instead.
ちょっと、ひっそりとした場所にこの石碑が建つだけ。
Only this stone monument stands here quietly in a somewhat secluded spot.
ゲーム「信長の野望」で戦国時代好きになったので、ここには絶対来たかった！
I became fascinated with the Sengoku period through the game Nobunaga’s Ambition, so this was a place I absolutely wanted to visit！
諸行無常・盛者必衰の言葉が浮かぶ…なんだか、物悲しくなっちゃいました。
The words ‘all things are impermanent‘ and ‘the mighty must eventually fall‘ came to mind…and somehow it made me feel a little melancholic.
楽しいこの修学旅行も明日が最後。
Their fun school trip would also come to an end tomorrow.
その気持ちも乗っかって、２人の周りに哀愁が漂ってしまったのでしょうね💧
Perhaps those feelings, too, made a sense of quiet wistfulness linger around the two of them💧
そして、気付けば夕食タイム！
And before they knew it, it was time for dinner！
一旦、バスで京都駅まで戻り、最後のディナーを豪華に奮発しようと思った２人。
The two decided to take the bus back to Kyoto Station and treat themselves to a luxurious final dinner.
でも、今日も歩きまわって疲れたし…駅ビルでもある「伊勢丹」内を素通りした時に、ある店のあるメニューが気になって…そこに即入店を決めてしまいました！
But after walking around all day, they were tired, and while passing through Isetan in the station building, a certain dish at one of the restaurants caught their eye－ so they immediately decided to go in！
そのお店の名は「Molletteモレット」♡
The restaurant was called Mollet♡
主に卵を使った料理や甘味…京都らしさを追求した洋食店。
It’s a Western-style restaurant that mainly serves dishes and sweets made with eggs…while also aiming to capture a Kyoto-like touch.
京都を中心に全国展開をしているそうです。
Apparently, it has locations across Japan, centered around Kyoto.
この店のイチオシはオムライス♪
The restaurant’s signature dish is omelet rice.
「オレの先輩に、ガサツで適当で仕事をサボってばかりいる人がいるんだけど…、その人が無類のオムライス好きなんだよな～💧」
“I’ve got a senior at work who’s really rough around the edges, totally careless, and always slacking off…but that guy absolutely loves omelet rice💧”
「あぁ、あのケビンでライマンとかいう人！」
“Oh yeah, that guyー Kevin Ryman, right？”
「あ～、いつも、お昼に嬉しそうにオムライス搔っ込んでる顔…思い出しちゃった～💦」
“Ah man…now I can picture him shoveling down omelet rice at lunch with that satisfied look on his face…💦”
「楽しい旅行中くらい、あのオッサンのことを思い出すのやめようぜ～💧」
“Come on, at least while we’re on this fun trip, let’s not start thinking about that old guy～💧”
「…けど、その食べてる顔が幸せそうで…ちょっと羨ましかったんだよな！
だから、ここのお店の前を通ったら、メニューのオムライスの画像が目に入って…オレも無性に食べたくなっちゃった！」
“But you know…the way he looked when he was eating itー he seemed so happy.
I was actually a little jealous！
So when we walked past this place and I saw that picture of omelet rice on the menu…I suddenly had this irresistible craving for it！”
「た、確かに、オレも食べたくなった！…けど、
…もう、中学生設定…完全無視じゃん！」
“W-Well, yeah…now I kinda want some too！
…but aren’t we completely ignoring the whole ‘middle school student’ setting now?!
そして、レオンが頼んだのは「デミグラスソースのオムライスと２品の選べるおかずセット」サラダ・スープ・ドリンク付き♪
And what Leon ordered was omelet rice with demi-glace sauce and a two-item side set, which also came with salad, soup, and a drink♪
選んだおかずは…エビグラタンとデミグラスハンバーグ！
For his sides, he chose shrimp gratin and a demi-glace hamburger steak！
「ハンバーグとオムライスのソースがカブちゃった💦
オレ、どんだけデミグラスソースが好きなのよ？
それでも、全て美味しくて、全て大好物♪
大好きなものがちょっとずつ数種類食べられる幸せを体感しました♡」
“The sauce on the hamburger steak and the omelet rice ended up being the same💦
How much do I love demi-glace sauce, anyway？
Still, everything was delicious－ and all my favorites♪
I got to experience the happiness of being able to enjoy several things I love, just a little bit at a time♡”
続いて、アークが頼んだものはレオンと同じセットメニューで「明太子ソースオムライスと選べる２品のおかずセット」サラダ・スープ・ドリンク付き♪
Next, Ark ordered the same set menu Leon: omelet rice with spicy cod roe sauce and a two-item side set, which also came with salad, soup, and drink♪
選んだおかずは本日のお魚料理(鮭のムニエル)、ビーフシチュー！
For his sides, he chose today’s fish dish (salmon meuniēre) and beef stew！
「オムライスの卵トロトロ～♪
和風だしに明太子と刻みのり…そして、大葉！ 最高の組み合わせ♪
ビーフシチューのお肉も口の中で溶けちゃうし、この時期高かった(今も？)鮭も食べれて大満足♡
もう、オレのレシピ帳…最後のページまで美味しいもので埋まりそう♪」
“The eggs on the omelet rice are so soft and creamy～♪
Japanese-style dashi, spicy cod roe, shredded nori…and shiso leaves！
The perfect combination♪
The beef in the beef stew practically melts in your mouth, and I even got to eat salmon－ which was expensive this season (maybe it still is？) ー so I’m totally satisfied♡
At this rate, the very last page of my recipe notebook is going to be filled with delicious things♪”
このオムライス…飲めるぞ？
This omelet rice…you could practically drink it.
…ってくらい、スプーンからのトロトロ卵とライスの喉越しが良くて、あっという間にお皿をキレイにしてしまった２人。
That’s how smooth it went down－ the runny eggs and rice sliding so easily off the spoon that the two of them polished off their plates in no time.
食後のアイスコーヒーを飲みながら、この修学旅行で訪れたお寺の思い出話に花を咲かせるのでした♪
While sipping their iced coffee after the meal, they happily chatted about the temples they had visited on this school trip.
今日の夕食も大当たりのお店に出会うことが出来ましたね
Once again, tonight’s dinner turned out to be a great find
そして、最後に京都駅周辺を散策。
And finally, they took a walk around the area near Kyoto Station.
時間が無くて京都タワーには登れませんでした💧
They didn’t have enough time to go up Kyoto Tower💧
名残惜しそうに下からパチリ
So, a little reluctantly, they took a photo from below instead
＆「あ～ぁ、もっと京都にいたいな～♪」
“Aww…I wish we could stay in Kyoto longer～♪”
そんなことを想いつつ、京都駅をあとにし、バリー先生が待つホテルに帰る…レオンとアークなのでした。
Thinking that, Leon and Ark left Kyoto Station and headed back to the hotel where Mr. Barry was waiting.
この日歩いた歩数は、27,792歩！
The number of steps they walked that day was 27,792！
昨日よりちょっと多かったですね💧
That was a little more than yesterday💧
今晩もやっぱり、点呼の後、各部屋に帰り、シャワーを浴びて…ベッドにばたんきゅ～
な2人なのでした。
That night, just like before, after roll call they returned to their rooms, took a shower…and then promptly collapsed onto their beds.
