秋が深まって、やっと涼しくなってきた10月末…。

As autumn deepened and the weather finally began to cool in late October…

レオンが通うRaccoon中学校は、修学旅行の季節になりました。

It was time for the school trip at Raccoon Junior High, where Leon studies.

「なんだか知らないけど、今回のオレらの設定…中学生らしいぞ💧」

” I don’t really know why, but apparently our setting this time is that we’re middle school students…💧”

「はぁ？ど、どうしてオレまで巻き込まれてんだ💦⁉」

” Huh？ W-why am I getting dragged into this too?!”

「だって、オレの同級生じゃ～ん♪ 学ラン似合ってるよ、アーク♡」

” Because you’re my classmate, duh♪

That school uniform actually looks good on you, Ark♡”

「だからって、ブログ主の遊びに降り回されるの…やめろよ …って、お前もオレ以上に学ラン似合ってるぞ💧」

” That doesn’t mean we should let the blog owner mess around with us like this…knock it off！

…Though honestly, that uniform suits you even better than it does me. 💧”

「修学旅行か。旅行…面白そうだから、このままのノリで一緒に遊ぼうぜ～♪」

” A school trip, huh.

Traveling…sounds fun, so let’s just roll with it and hang out together♪”

「…お前って、そんな軽いキャラだったっけ💧？」

” Since when were you such a carefree guy？💧”

「ウッス♪」

” Yeah♪”

「まぁ、オレも旅行…嫌いじゃないんで、このままのノリで付き合っちゃうか！」

” Well, I don’t hate traveling either…so I guess I’ll just roll with it and tag along！”

＆「よし！修学旅行だ‼【そうだ、京都、行こう】」

” Alright！ It’s time for the school trip‼ 【That’s it－ let’s go to Kyoto！】

中学の修学旅行といえば…京都ですね♪

” When it comes to junior high school trip…Kyoto is the classic destination♪”

まずは旅行の準備から！学校から手渡されたしおりをチェック。

First things first－ getting ready for the trip！

They check the travel itinerary booklet handed out by the school.

【注意事項！】に目が留まる２人。

Their eyes stop on the section titled: 【Important Notes！】

「おやつは、１日500円まで⁉ 」

” Snacks are limited to 500yen?!”

「バナナは含まれません！」

” Bananas don’t count！”

「ほぉ～、じゃあ冷凍ミカンもダメかな？」

” Oh yeah？ Then I guess frozen mandarins aren’t allowed either？”

「れ…冷凍💧。

だったらデザート代わりでおやつに入るんじゃ…？

わ～ん、新幹線の中で食べたかったのに～。

500円のおやつ代から出すとなると…予算オーバーになっちゃうよ💦 ど～しよ～💦」

” F-frozen…？💦

Then wouldn’t that count as a snack, since it’s basically a dessert…？

Aww man, I wanted to eat it on the Shinkansen…

If I have to pay for it out of my 500-yen snack budget…I’ll go over the limit！💦 What am I gonna do？💦

「…そ、そんなに悩むこと(呆)？」

” It that really something to worry about？ (sigh)”

「〈他校との揉め事を起こさない〉だって！」

” It says, ‘Don’t start any trouble with students from other schools！'”

「あ～、オッサン(ケビン・ライマン)居なくて良かった～！あの人がいたら、大変なことになっていたぞ💦…って、レオン…何で瞳を輝かせてんだ💦⁉」

” Man, it’s a good thing the old guy (Kevin Ryman) isn’t here！

If he were, this would’ve turned into a huge mess. 💦

…Wait, Leon…why are your eyes sparkling like that?!💦”

「あ～、いるいる♪ ディ〇ニーランドとかでテンション上がり過ぎて、入場してすぐに大きなぬいぐるみ買っちゃって、アトラクションで邪魔になっちゃうヤ～ツ！」

” Oh yeah, I know the type♪

The ones who get so excited at places like Disneyland that they buy a huge stuffed toy right after entering, and then it just gets in the way on the rides！”

「お土産は、帰り際に購入するのが基本だな！特に特大のものは💧‼」

” The basic rule is to buy your souvenirs right before heading home！

Especially the really big ones. 💧

「あとの注意事項は大体…常識的なことだね。」

” The rest of the rules are mostly…just common-sense stuff.”

「そうだな。それじゃあ、あとは〈しおり〉に書いてある通り…楽しく〈はんなり〉過ごそうぜ♪」

” Yeah, sounds good.

Then let’s just follow the itinerary and enjoy ourselves－ nice and easy, Kyoto-style♪”

「〈しおり〉に載っているってことは…現地で唄う気なのか💦⁉ や、やめてくれ～」

” Wait…if it’s in the itinerary, does that mean we’re actually supposed to sing it there?! 💦

N-no, please don’t make us！”

そんな疑問も持ちながら…とうとう修学旅行当日…。京都へ出ぱ～つ！

With those questions in mind, the day of the school trip finally arrived…

Off to Kyoto we go！

＆「おぉ～、Mt. Fuji～♪」

” Whoa！ Mt. Fuji～♪”

新幹線の車窓から見える富士山にご満悦の２人♪

The two of them are completely delighted by the view of Mt. Fuji from the Shinkansen window♪

今はRaccoon高校のせいで、佐賀県にあるRaccoon中学校。

Thanks to Raccoon High, Raccoon Junior High is actually located in Saga Prefecture.

それなのに、１度、東京に出てから京都へ💧

And yet, they first head to Tokyo before going on to Kyoto…💧

＆「なんで、わざわざ…２度手間？」

” Why go through all that…doing it twice？”

東京から名古屋→京都への２時間ちょっとの電車の旅はあっという間！

The train ride from Tokyo to Nagoya and then on to Kyoto－ just over two hours－ flew by！

あっさり、京都駅到着。

Before they knew it, they’d arrived at Kyoto Station.

これから、地下鉄や市営バスをたくさん使うので、

Since they’ll be using the subway and city buses a lot from here on…

便利な１日乗り放題の周遊券を購入。

they bought a convenient one- day unlimited travel pass.

京都駅から地下鉄烏丸(からすま)線でホテルがある「十条駅」へ。

From Kyoto Station, they took the Karasuma Subway Line to Jujo Station, where their hotel is located.

チェックインはまだですが、大きな荷物を預かってもらいました♪

Check-in wasn’t ready yet, but they were able to leave their large luggage at the hotel♪

その後、一旦…京都駅に戻り、バスを使って…最初の目的地…清水寺へ！

After that, they headed back to Kyoto Station for a short while, then took a bus to their first destination…Kiyomizu-Temple！

それにしても海外からの観光客が多い！

There are so many tourists from overseas, though！

＆「(こんな格好してるけど)オレらも～！」

” Even though we’re dressed like this…we’re coming too！💧”

ゆったりな坂を登ること約８分。清水寺に到着しました♪

After a gentle eight-minute climb up the slope, they arrived at Kiyomizu-Temple♪

入館料400円納めました♪

They paid the 400-yen entrance fee♪

↑これが、有名な入口にある仁王門(重要文化財)。

This is the famous Niomon Gate at the entrance, an Important Cultural Property.

修学旅行で訪れたことがある人は、懐かしく感じたかな？

I wonder if those who’ve visited on a school trip feel a sense of nostalgia.

「それにしても良い天気♪」

” What a beautiful day♪”

「もうすぐ11月とは思えない気温の高さ💦」

” I can’t believe how warm it is, especially for almost November 💦

ちょうどレオンたちが京都にいた３日間は、連続して最高気温が25℃を超える夏日でした。

During the three days Leon and Ark were in Kyoto, the daily high temperatures consecutively exceeded 25℃, making it feel like summer.

(この時期の連続３日間は、気象庁の観測史上初…なのだそう💧)

(Apparently, this was the first time in the Meteorological Agency’s recorded history that three consecutive gays in this season reached such temperatures 💧)

「清水寺は〈三重塔〉だけど…、〈五重塔〉って…下から地(基礎)、水(塔身)、火(笠)、風(請花)、空(宝珠)からなっていて、それぞれが５つの世界(思想)を意味して、仏教的な宇宙観を表している建造物なんだって！」

” Kiyomizu- Temple has a three- storied pagoda, but a five-storied pagoda…from the bottom up consists of Earth (the foundation), Water (the body), Fire (the roof), Wind (the brackets), and Sky (the final).

Each level represents one of five realms (or philosophies), and the structure reflects the Buddhist view of the universe！”

「え？そうなの⁉ …てっきり、各階に強い敵がいて、倒しながら上に登っていく…修行とか試練の場所かと思ってた～💦」

“Huh？ Really？

…I totally thought it was a place where you face strong enemies on each floor and climb upward while defeating them…like some kind of training or trial！💦

「４亡遊戯～💦？」

” Game of Death～💦？”

That’s the title of Bruce Lee movie.

「或いはゲーム〈スパルタンX〉ともいう…。」

” Or, you could say it’s also the game ‘Spartan X’…”

「ブルース・リーの映画の方が元ネタ～！」

” The Bruce Lee movie came first～！”

そして、ついに来ました！清水の舞台‼

And finally, they’ve arrived！ The Kiyomizu Stage!!

今日も観光客でいっぱい。

It’s packed with tourists today as well.

「飛び降りるには、結構な高さでした！」

” That’s quite a height to jump from！”

「…願掛けとはいえ、実際に飛び降りた人もいるんだって💧 随分、昔のことだけど…。」

“…Even though it was meant as a kind of wish-making ritual, apparently some people actually jumped from it💧

Though that was a long time ago…”

「バイオ６で墜落する旅客機から助かったオレなら…イケると思います！」

” If it’s me－ the guy who survived a crashing passenger plane in Resident Evil ６…I think I could pull it off！”

「…やめとけって！」

“…Just don’t, okay？”

「…いや、イケると思います‼」

“…No, I still think I could pull it off‼”

「真顔で言うな～！」

” Don’t say that with a straight face！”

そして、ここでレオンが持ってきた御朱印帳にご注目！

And now, take a look at the Goshuin stamp book Leon brought along！

なんと、大神のアマテラス！４年前くらいに「CAPCOMショップ」で買いました♪

Believe it or not, it’s Amaterasu from the game Ōkami！

He bought it at a Capcom shop about four years ago♪

Everyone who writes these Goshuin has such beautiful handwriting

清水寺見学が終わると…ちょうどお昼タイム♪

Once the visit to Kiyomizu-Temple was over…it was just about time for lunch♪

お腹が空いた２人が見つけたお店は…お食事処「ここどす」。

The restaurant the hungry duo stumbled upon was a place called Kokodosu.

店前に張り出された魅力的なメニューに目を奪われていると、品の良い店主さんらしき男性ににこやかに「すぐご案内できますよ～♪」と声を掛けられ、即入店決定！

As they were captivated by the tempting menu posted outside, a refined-looking man－ likely the owner－ smiled and said, ‘ We can seat you right away.’

That was all it took for them to decide to go in！

「おいでやす！」と店員さんの挨拶に感動

They were even greeted with a cheerful ‘ Oideyasu (Welcome)！’ from the staff, which really impressed them

「やった～！キレイな京言葉が聞けた～」

” Yes！ We got to hear that beautiful Kyoto dialect”

「方言って味があって素敵だよね♪」

” Dialects really have a certain charm to them, don’t they ？♪”

レオンが頼んだのは「カレーうどん」！ ↑学ランを汚さないように、紙エプロン付き。

Leon ordered the curry udon！

It even came with a paper bib so he wouldn’t get his school uniform dirty.

「和風だしが効いていて、甘めのカレーがうどんにピッタリ！

The Japanese-style broth really comes through, and the slightly sweet curry goes perfectly with the udon！

あまりにも美味しくて、汁もぜ～んぶ飲み干しちゃった～♪

It was so delicious that I ended up drinking every last drop of the broth♪

関西のうどんと言ったら〈細切りのお揚げ〉。

And when it comes to Kansai-style udon, you’ve got those thin strips of fried tofu.

これもカレーとの相性がバツグンだったな～♡」

They paired amazingly well with the curry too♡”

アークが頼んだのは、「茶そばとかやくご飯のセット」！

Ark ordered the set with green tea soba and seasoned rice！

「とにかく、茶そばのお茶の味が濃い！これぞ、抹茶の本場の茶そば‼って感じ♪

” Anyway, the green tea flavor in the soba is so strong！

This is what authentic green tea soba is all about‼

汁も鰹だしが効いていて最高だったぞ♡

The broth was also packed with bonito flavor－ absolutely amazing♡

ちょっと歩き疲れたから、かやくご飯もぺろりと平らげちゃった♫」

We’d walked a bit and gotten tired, so I polished off the seasoned rice in no time too♪”

お食事処「ここどす」…２人はとても満足したようです

At the restaurant Kokodosu, the two seemed very satisfied

腹ごしらえをした後はお土産タイム♪

After filling their stomachs, it was time for souvenirs♪

お土産街で何軒も歩きまわって、吟味して…今回レオンが選んだお土産は…?

They wandered through several shops in the souvenir district, carefully checking everything…and the souvenir Leon chose this time was…？

本家・西尾の生八つ橋！

The authentic Yatsuhashi from the original Nishio shop！

「オーソドックスなニッキから、抹茶・ほうじ茶、ゴマ・白あん…季節限定のサツマイモ・クリ味など、いろいろあって悩んだけど…、食べやすいチョコバナナ・イチゴ味にしちゃった♡」

” There were so many choices－ from the classic cinnamon, matcha, roasted green tea, sesame, and white bean, to seasonal flavors like sweet potato and chestnut.

I couldn’t decide…so I went with the easy-to -eat chocolate banana and strawberry flavors♡”

「オレはサツマイモ・クリ味～♪」

” I went with the sweet potato and chestnut flavors～♪”

現地で全て試食済み！ …買うのに悩むほど、どれも全部美味しかった～♡

They had already sampled everything on site！

…Every single one was so delicious that it was hard to decide what to buy♡

しかも、この生八つ橋…１つ食べたら止まらない！手軽で美味しくて何個もイケちゃう♪

And this fresh Yatsuhashi…once you eat one, you can’t stop！

They’re easy to eat, tasty, and you can have several without even noticing♪

「もっと買ってくれば良かった！」…と、後悔するレオンなのでした。

” I should’ve bought more～！”

Leon ended up regretting it.
