「…ん？ マリーゴールドで終わりじゃない💦？ 何か他の物も育ててんぞ～?!」【朝顔を育てる！】 ４年Ａ組 レオン・Ｓ・ケネディ「同時に朝顔も育ててたのかよ～💧 すっかり忘れてた💦」朝顔ってどんな花？夏の朝に咲く、日本でとても身近な花。
A familiar flower in Japan that blooms on summer mornings.
朝早くに花を咲かせ、昼にはしぼんでしまう「一日花（
It blooms early in the morning and withers by midday, marking it a “one-day flower.”
江戸時代から親しまれてきた花で、
Morning glories have been popular in Japan since the Edo period and are often grown as part of elementary school lessons.

？ しかも江戸時代って～💧 うちのじぃちゃんは〈日本かぶれ〉だったのかなぁ💦？」

But he died before I even went to the police academy💦！
Is this all because I found my old summer vacation homework？
…Come to think of it, even though I was growing both at the same time, I actually started the morning glories later.”
(Leon has absolutely no memory of this💧.)

May 21 () ー 【Preparation！】
発芽しやすいように、種を一晩…水に浸します。
To help the seeds germinate, soak them in water overnight.
「準備の仕方はマリーゴールドと一緒～💦 やっぱり、この種も日本製…💧」
“The preparation is the same as for the marigolds💦 So this seed is from Japan, too💧”
あの世のじぃちゃん「…だから言ったじゃん💧」
Grandpa from the afterlife: “…Like I told you💧”
「またじぃちゃんの声が聞こえた～」
“I heard Grandpa’s voice again！”

) 【種まき】
May 22 () ー【Planting the Seeds】
１cmくらいの穴を掘り、そこに種を蒔いて覆土する。
Dig a hole about １cm deep, place the seed in it, and cover it with soil.
「ここもマリーゴールドの育て方と、大して変わらないな…。」
“This part isn’t much different from how you grow marigolds, either…”
５月29日() 【発芽♪】) ー 【Sprouted♪】
種まきから１週間…最初の芽が出た。紫がかった小さな芽が土のあいだから顔を出す。
About a week after planting the seeds, the first sprout appeared.
A tiny, purplish sprout poked its head out from the soil.
「ちっちゃ💦！」
“So, tiny💦！”
６月１日() 【双葉が開く！】
June １ () ー【The First Leaves Unfurl！】
双葉がふわっと開いた。
The first two leaves gently unfurled.
茎は少し赤く、葉の表面には細かい毛が見える。
The stem had a slight reddish tint, and tiny hairs could be seen on the surface of the leaves.
「たった２日でここまで成長💦？ 最初は弱弱しい小さな芽だったのに、だんだん逞しくなってきた♪」６月８日(
) 【本葉が出る！】) ー 【The First True Leaves Appear！】
双葉の間から、ハート形の本葉が大きく開く。
A heart-shaped true leaf unfurled wide between the first two leaves.
葉の緑が濃くなり、ポットの中が少しずつ賑やかになってきた。
The leaves grew a deeper shade of green, and the pot slowly began to fill out with lush new growth.
「朝顔といえば…そうそう、↑こんな葉っぱだった！ すっかり忘れてるな～💧」
“Morning glories…oh, yeah！ That’s right！
These are the leaves they have！
I’d completely forgotten what they looked like💧”
６月18日 () 【本葉がさらに大きく成長♪】
June 18 () ー 【The True Leaves Grow Even Bigger♪】
葉脈がしっかりしていて、触れると少し厚みがある。
The leaf veins have become more prominent, and the leaves feel slightly thick to the touch.
この頃から、つるがゆっくりと伸び始める。
Around this time, the vines begin to slowly stretch and grow.
「朝顔をといえば…つる。植木鉢に棒を挿すと巻き付けるんだっけ？6月25日() 【つるが伸び、ツボミも発見♪】
) ー【The Vines Grow Longer, and a Bud Appears♪】
茎がぐんぐん伸び、
The stem is growing rapidly, and the vines are starting to wind their way toward the gaps in the fence.
毎日少しずつ形が変わり、朝顔らしい姿になってきた。
Its shape changes a little more each day, and it’s starting to look more and more like a morning glory.
「添え木をするんじゃあなくて、ベランダの柵に直接巻き付けちゃった～💦 そこら辺が意外と大雑把な小学生のオレ～💧」
“Instead of giving it a support to climb, I just let the vines wrap around the balcony railing💦
looks like I was a surprisingly careless elementary school kid when it came to stuff like that💧”
小さなツボミも発見！
「次から次へとたくさん出てくる気配💦」
“Looks like more and more are going to keep popping up💦”
７月２日() 【つぼみが膨らむ♪】
July ２ () ー 【The Buds Begin to Swell♪】
細長いピンクのつぼみが、くるりとねじれながらふくらんできた。
The slender pink buds are swelling as they slowly twist and curl.
だけど、暑さで何個か膨らむ前に…枯れてしまった。
But the heat caused some of them to wither before they could fully develop.
「あの時代、既に酷暑？ …たまには、こんな失敗もあるさ💧」
“Was it already scorching hot back then？ …You win some, you lose some💧”
７月５日() 【つぼみが開きはじめる♪】
) ー【The Buds Begin to Bloom♪】
つぼみの先がゆるみ、ピンクと白の色が見えてきた。明日の朝には咲きそうな様子。
The tips of the buds begin to loosen, revealing hints of pink and white.
They look like they’ll bloom by tomorrow morning.
「種まきから…約１ヶ月ちょっと、やっとここまで来たな♪ …というか、よく飽きずに育てたな！」 (今のオレより、しっかりしてたりして…💧)
“It’s been a little over a month since I planted the seeds, and it’s finally come this far♪
…Actually, I’m impressed _I stuck with it for so long！”
(Maybe I was more responsible back then than I am now💧)
７月６日() 【初めての開花（濃いピンク）】
July ６ () ー【First Bloom (Deep Pink) 】
ついに、鮮やかなピンクの朝顔が咲いた♪
At last, a vibrant pink morning glory has bloomed♪
一輪咲くだけで、ベランダが一気に華やぐ
Just one flower is enough to brighten up the entire balcony

淡い紫に白が混じった優しい色の花も咲いた♪
A soft, pale purple flower with touches of white bloomed as well♪
濃い色の花とはまた違う、涼しげで落ち着いた雰囲気。
It has a cool, calming feel that’s quite different from the deeper-colored blooms.

I stuck with it and saw it through to the end♪
Actually, there’s a little story that happened afterward…Grandpa gave me a puppy as a reward for successfully growing those beautiful marigolds and morning glories！

Grandpa said, ’If Leon can take care of his flowers every day, I’m sure he can take care of a dog, too…’
…His name was Alexander.
I went running around all over the place with my friend Ark…We’d go to the woods, the park…all kinds of places♪
…Those were the days. …It really was a fun summer vacation“

10歳から警察学校に行くまで育ててくれた祖父。
His grandfather raised him from the age of ten until He left for the police academy.
その祖父からもらった犬アレク…兄弟みたいに仲良く一緒に育ちました。
Alexander, the dog Grandpa gave him…They grew up together, as close as brothers.
そして、祖父に引き取られてから、初めて出来た友だち…今でも親友のアーク。
And Ark, the very first friend He ever made after being taken in by his grandfather…Ark’s still his best friend to this day.
※アークが親友なこと以外…「ラクーンシティホール」だけの設定です！
Except for Ark being Leon’s best friend, everything else is exclusive to the Raccoon City Hall universe！
その「夏休みの宿題」をまたそっと参考書に戻し、サクサクと最後の段ボールの中身を分別。
He gently slipped the summer vacation homework back into the reference book, then quickly sorted through the contents of the last cardboard box.
全ての段ボールが片付きました
And just like that, all the cardboard boxes were finally cleared out
「よ～し！ なんだか明日からも頑張れそうだぞ♪」
“All right！ Somehow, I feel like I can keep going tomorrow, too♪”
う～んと、ひと背伸びをしたレオン。
Leon stretched, reaching up as high as he could.

His face was bright and cheerful, with a wonderfully refreshed look♪
あの世のじぃちゃん「…お前が育てた花のように、立派になったな…レオン。」
Grandpa from the afterlife: “…You’ve grown into a fine young man, just like the flowers you raised, Leon.”
あの世で見守るレオンの祖父もなんだか誇らしげなのでした♪
From the afterlife, Leon’s grandfather watched over him with a proud smile♪
