Upright and reversed share nearly the same meaning, but with subtle differences.

逆位置には、さらに混乱している状態が加わります。

In the reversed position, an added sense of deeper confusion comes into play.

〈カードの詳細〉 Card details

ペンタクルの５…数字の「５」は、「変化」「自由」、それに伴う「不安定さ」を表します。

Five of Pentacles…The number five represents change, freedom, and the instability that comes with them.

ペンタクル(金貨)は、お金や物質、現実的な思考や行動を表す「地」のエレメント。

Pentacles correspond to the element of Earth, symbolizing money, material matters, and practical thinking and action.

ペンタクルの５は、「変化」で起こる不安定な混乱を示しています。

The Five of Pentacles indicates unstable turmoil brought about by change.

しかし、教会の窓のステンドグラスとペンタクルが輝いていることから、この状態からの救いがあることを意味しています。

However, the stained-glass window of the church and the shining pentacles suggest that there is salvation to be found from this state.

ラクーンシティの地獄から脱出しようとしているクレアとシェリー…本物のタロットカードでは、２人の男女がボロボロの服をまとい、降り積もる雪の上を裸足で歩いています。

Claire and Sherry, trying to escape the hell of Raccoon City…In the original tarot card, a man and a woman dressed in tattered clothes walk barefoot through the falling snow.

その様子は、貧困や困窮を感じさせます。

Their appearance evokes a sense of poverty and hardship.

左の男性は頭に包帯を巻き、松葉杖をついてることから、病気やけがで健康を損なうことを暗示しています。

The man on the left has a bandage wrapped around his head and walks with crutches, suggesting illness or injury that has compromised his health.

しかし、右の女性と共に…２人の間には苦しみを共有する連帯感や親密さがあるので孤独という苦しみはありません。

However, together with the woman on the right, there is a sense of solidarity and intimacy born from sharing their suffering, so there is no loneliness in their pain.

その分、お互いが固い絆で結ばれているようです。

Instead, it feels as though they are bound together by a strong and unbreakable bond.

それを左の男性→シェリー・バーキン

I reimagined the man on the left as Sherry Birkin,

右の女性→クレア・レッドフィールドに描き替えてみました。

and the woman on the right as Claire Redfield.

最初にこの「ペンタクルの５」のカードを見た時、このカードの構図から直感で…バイオ２ (RE:2)のクレアとシェリーの姿が浮かびました。

When I first looked at the Five of Pentacles card, the composition immediately brought to mind Claire and Sherry from Resident Evil２(RE:２).

人々がゾンビ化した地獄のラクーンシティで、か弱いシェリーを助けながら脱出しようと奮闘するクレア。

In the hell that was Raccoon City, overrun by zombies, Claire tries to escape while protecting the vulnerable Sherry.

(本物のタロットカードの２人と同じく…)

(Just like the two figures in the original tarot card,)

同じ恐怖を乗り越えようと、共感する…寄り添い合う２人に見えたからです。

they seemed to me like two people overcoming the same fear together－ empathizing with one another and staying close side by side.

決して、貧困で苦しんでいる２人ではありませんが、困難に立ち向かうという点がこのカードと似ているので、クレアとシェリーの２人にモデルになってもらいました。

They are not suffering from poverty, of course, but the way they confront hardship mirrors the meaning of this card, which is why I chose Claire and Sherry as its models.

ステンドグラス…５つのペンタクルが輝く窓は、希望や救済を意味しています。

The stained glass…The window with the five shining pentacles represents hope and salvation.

しかし、２人はそれに気付かず、通り過ぎてしまいます。

Yet the two figures fail to notice it and simply pass by.

または、気付いてはいるが、自ら助けを求めない状態だともいわれます。

It is also said that they may be aware of it but choose not to seek help themselves.

教会…教会の入り口が描かれていないことから、教会側が２人を助ける気がないとも捉えられます。

The church…Since the entrance is not depicted, it can also be interpreted as the church having no intention of offering them help.

現実社会に見捨てられ、頼れる人がいない状況なのかもしれません。

Perhaps it reflects a situation in which they gave been abandoned by society, with no one to rely on.

しかし２人には、２人だけでもやっていける…という強い信頼感があります。

Even so, the two of them share a strong sense of trust－ believing that as long as they have each other, they can make it on their own.
